Lady Dragons win two

The Clinton Lady Dragons started strong en route to a 47-30 win over visiting Oakdale in the opener of the 2017-2018 basketball season.

Danyel Joy buried a 3-pointer just 25 seconds into the game and the Lady Dragons never looked back. Amaya Whitt scored as did Alayjah Whitt. Nikki Jones hit a 3-pointer and Joy made a basket. Jones sank a pair of free throws and Joy scored again as part of 16-1 run to open the game.

Clinton led 18-5 at the end of the first quarter.

Oakdale settled down in the second quarter but they were unable to close the scoring gap as Kinley Martin and freshman Abby Szabo joined the scoring for the Lady Dragons.

Clinton led 27-14 at halftime.

Jones, Amaya Whitt, and freshman Cierra Bunch continued the scoring for the Lady Dragons in the third quarter as took a 40-26 lead.

Neither team scored much in the fourth quarter as Clinton took the season opener.

Jones led the Lady Dragons with 17 points.

The Lady Dragons moved to 2-0 with a 47-40 win at Knoxville Catholic on Thursday evening.

Amaya Whitt led Clinton with 16 points as Jones chipped in 11 and Joy scored 9.

Martin finished with four points while Alayjah Whitt, Bunch, and Szabo each scored two.

Stats for the Lady Irish were not available at game time.

The Lady Dragons return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 29 when they open their district schedule by hosting Oak Ridge at 6 p.m.
