Hall of Fame coach is Grand Marshal of Christmas Parade
Mayor Scott Burton has announced this year’s Clinton Christmas Parade would have a special Grand Marshal, former CHS and ACHS Coach Alvin Taylor.
Clinton’s traditional Christmas Parade of bands, floats, and many other processional entries will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9. This year’s theme is “The Heart of Christmas.”
Taylor, a native of Clinton, is a 1968 graduate of Clinton High School where he starred on the basketball and baseball team.
He went on to attend Bernard College in northern Alabama on a basketball scholarship, graduating in 1972.
After graduating from college, Alvin returned to Clinton to become head baseball coach at his alma mater, Clinton High School from 1973 – 1985. During his tenure, the team won 440 games and made 11 appearances in the regional tournament.
Three teams he coached during this time reached the state quarterfinals; 1974, 1977 and 1984.
During this time, he also worked as the assistant basketball coach under Don Lockard.
In 1986, he became the head basketball coach at Anderson County High School for two years.
In 1998, he returned to Clinton High School as assistant baseball coach and stayed there until his retirement in 2005.
When Alvin’s son Casey became head baseball coach at Clinton in 2009, Alvin came out of retirement to be his assistant.
In 2015, Alvin was inducted into the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Businesses, churches, schools and other marching groups are encouraged to register and participate in the parade. There is no parade entry fee this year but registration form must be submitted. Deadline to register was Monday, Dec. 4. There will be no late entries.
