Clinton man dies in car accident Sunday
A 40-year-old Clinton man was killed in a single car accident Sunday, Dec. 10, on Dutch Valley Road when he was ejected after he lost control of his vehicle.
Winston T. Nelson was driving a 1992 Mazda Miata convertible east on Dutch Valley Road when he “failed to maintain his own lane,” and he swerved to avoid a west bound vehicle, Tennessee Highway Patrolman Joshua Kennedy said in his incident report.
Nelson lost control of the vehicle after swerving, struck an embankment, then hit an AT&T phone box, which caused his car to spin and strike a tree, Kennedy’s report continued.
After hitting the tree Nelson’s Miata continued to spin until it came to a stop off the roadway. Nelson was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected out of the top of the car.
Kennedy’s report stated had he been wearing a seat belt Nelson may have survived the crash.
As in all fatalities a mandatory alcohol and drug test were ordered, but Kennedy said in his report there was no indication either were involved in the accident.
The accident happened at about 2:50 p.m.
Anderson County Sheriff’s deputies responded with the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The accident occurred near the intersection of Smith Road.
Anderson County EMS and the Marlow Fire Department also responded to the accident.
