Clinton Middle School’s ‘Hawk Talk’ staff recognized

Clinton Middle School educator Kevin Powers, English Language Arts, presented his Hawk Time class students to the school board and wanted to honor them with recognition for creating and maintaining the new “Hawk Talk” column that runs every week in The Courier News.

This is a completely student led effort, Powers commented.

Each week the students will gather information and take pictures on any news from around the school, such as sports, clubs, teachers, etc.

Powers congratulated each of his students and bragged about their impressive sense of responsibility to the Hawk Talk column. This left huge smiles on each of the kids faces.

Not only did Kevin Powers remark on the student’s “great news” column but also on Clinton Middle School’s extremely high reading level. Clinton Middle School students have read 5,185 books since Dec. 1, 2017.

The school’s goal was for 10,000 books for the entire year … Looks like they will beat this goal by a mile, Powers noted.

Student Angelina Long (eighth grade) has read 35 books just by herself so far.
