Scheduled warning siren system will not take place on July 4

The DOE Public Warning Siren System will not be tested in the areas surrounding the Department’s Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR) on July 4, due to the Independence Day Holiday.

However, if an actual emergency were to take place during the Independence Day holiday (July 4th), the sirens will be sounded.

The DOE Public Warning Siren Systems are normally tested between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., on the first Wednesday of each month.

The sirens are intended to provide immediate notification of an emergency to people who are within an approximate two-mile radius of DOE’s ORR.

When citizens hear the sirens, they should go inside, close all windows and ventilation systems, and listen to their radio or television for public health and safety-related information.
