Local athletes qualify for AAU National Track Championships

Brittany Bishop, a rising senior at Anderson County High, recently won the pole vault event at the AAU Regional Track Championship at the University of Tennessee.

The meet is a qualifier to the 2018 AAU National Championship Junior Olympics to be held in Des Moines, Iowa.

Her winning vault was 12 feet, six inches.

Bishop won the state championship in pole vault for the past two years.

She also placed second in the 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 15.02 — a personal record.

Bishop qualified for nationals in both events.

Brooke Housley, a rising junior at ACHS qualified for the nationals with a fifth place finish in the 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 1:21.86.

Cole Dark, a rising junior at ACHS qualified for the nationals with a second place finish in Shot Put with a distance of 39 feet, eight and one-half inches.

He also qualified for nationals in discus thanks to a fourth place finish with a distance of 78 feet, one inch.

Ella Brummitt, a seventh grader at Norris Middle School qualified for the nationals in three events — fifth place, Shot Put (28 feet, five inches), sixth place, Discus (66 feet, two inches), and third place, Javelin (58 feet, two inches).

Robert “Cameron” Hardy, a fourth graders at Fairview Elementary, qualified for the nationals with a fifth place finish in the 800 Meter Run (2:50.88) and a fifth place finish in the 1500 Meter Run (5:46.31).
