Mountain bike scavenger hunt set for Sept. 17

The Norris Area Trail System managing partners are sponsoring the By Land or By Sea Mountain Bike Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Loyston Point Trails from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This is a fun, all-skills and all-ages event, but it is tailored for children and families.

Participants will ride the trail and stop at stations along the route to learn about Leave No Trace principles and the history of the area. Each person who completes the trail and stops at each station will receive a free T-shirt and goody bag.

Check-in and the start and finish line will be at Loyston Point’s Public Launch Parking Lot at 730 Loyston Point in Andersonville. The event will take place on the Loyston Loop trail, which is a 5.4-mile loop.

This event is open to people of all ages and skill levels. It is not a race but a time for bikers to explore the trails and become familiar with the recreational opportunities that can be found at Loyston Point.

Participants under 18 must have a release signed by a legal guardian.

In addition to having a signed release, participants under 16 must also be accompanied on the ride by a legal guardian.

If you wish to participate in the event, you must register online at natstrails.com by 6 p.m. Sept. 15. There will be no onsite registration.

This is a free event, but if you would like to make a donation, you can do so at natstrails.com.

All donations are used to sustain and improve the trails in the Norris Lake Area Trail System.

For more information about the event and the routes, visit natstrails.com, email info@norrislakeproject.com or call 865-457-4547.

This event is organized by the Norris Lake Project Team, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and conserving the natural resources of the Norris Lake Watershed area.
