Kids fish free day was ‘one for the books’

It was an amazing sun- ny day — not too hot to grab your rods and reels for the 2023 Jake’s Day Free Fish Day Saturday.

And it was one for the record book as 159 kids attended the free event at the Eagle Bend Fish Hatchery. Melton Hill Long Beards chapter

of the NWTF helped sponsor the event. Bear Stephenson donated 10 Walmart $10 gift cards.

The Melton Hill Long Beards chapter gave out rods, reels, bobbers, toys and more to lucky kids with raffle tickets they gave to everyone who entered the hatchery and NWTF’s Skeeter Clinton and Darren Harness helped kids find the right spot to catch a fish.

TWRA Game Warden Rick Roberts from Union County helped kids catch and release, even baited the hooks and untangled lines. Another TWRA officer helped on the other side of the pond.

Clinton said, “I have the best crew of guys and gals by my side. If not for my crew I would be lost, so to my people — Joey Goosie, Candice Drinnon Goosie, Chuck Lively, Tanner Lively, Darren Harness, Cheyenne, Brad Clinton, Kate Clinton, David Long, Danny Bridges Jr., Dan Bridges Sr., Petie Clinton, William Landrum — thank you all so very much for helping make this event a success.”
