The city of Oak Ridge is looking to buy Anderson County Schools’ Life Development Center on Old Edgemoor Road near Haw Ridge Park from the school system.

The center and its challenge course have already closed.

Oak Ridge Senior Communications Coordinator Lauren Gray told The Courier News that the Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department is considering possible uses for the property, including improved public access to Haw Ridge Park and Melton Lake Greenway.

The City Council passed a resolution at its June 12 meeting allowing interim City Manager Jack Suggs to enter negotiations with Anderson County Board of Education to buy the property. It says the Anderson County board voted on May 9 to sell the property.

The City Council’s resolution suggests merging the property with Haw Ridge Park, and describes it as “difficult to commercialize” due to it being surrounded by city and Tennessee Valley Authority property.

The City Council may take another vote to purchase the property after Suggs finishes negotiations.
