A fundraising event last Saturday for the Anderson County High School band raised $3,338 to help toward the purchase of new uniforms for the 90 members of the band.

That’s according to Jennifer Rutherford, president of the ACHS Band Boosters Club.

There’s more work to be done, however, as the uniforms will cost $51,000, she said.

The band has already paid a $17,000 deposit on the new uniforms, from money already on hand from other fundraising efforts, Rutherford said.

“We have a little bit more to go,” she said. “This is my first time doing this. I understand that the uniforms are generally expected to last about 10 years, and the ones we have now are 11 years old. So we’re a little bit overdue.”

The band does get $25,000 a year from the school’s budget, but most of that goes toward other expenses, Rutherford said. “We can’t depend on any of that for uniforms.”

Saturday’s event, held in front of the school on North Charles G. Seivers Boulevard, included 46 merchandise booths rented by vendors selling all different kinds of goods.

There were also booths operated by the ACHS Cheer Team and the ACHS Dance Team, both of which were doing their own fundraising.

The money raised for the band came from rental fees for the vendor booths.

Rutherford said her son Evan, a rising junior at ACHS, has been in band since the sixth grade.
