Lady Mavs win three in a row in district play

After falling to crosstown rival Clinton early last week, the Anderson County High School volleyball team bounced back to open District 4-AA play with three consecutive wins.

The Lady Mavericks (13-6 overall, 3-0 in district play) closed out the week with a 3-0 sweep of Kingston Thursday night.

On Tuesday, Aug. 29, Anderson County swept a league double header at home, sweeping Alcoa 25-15, 25-15, 25-17, and cruising past Sequoyah, 25-7, 25-12, 25-12.

Senior Emily Mustard led the Lady Mavs’ hitting attack against the Lady Tornadoes as she finished with seven kills and one block. She also posted a pair of service aces, one dig and one assist.

Against the Lady Cherokees, Faith Graham finished with eight kills and one block.

Shelby Kelly added five kills, while Mustard and Kyra Damewood finished with four kills each.

The Lady Mavericks had a rematch against Sequoyah Tuesday, but results were unavailable at press time.

ACHS hosts South-Doyle Thursday in another district showdown, with the first serve slated for 6 p.m.
