The Rocky Top mural

And the artist behind it

  • Multimedia artist Casey Davey of Oak Ridge works on the mural she’s painting on the side of the Coal Creek General Store at 331 S. Main St. in Rocky Top. The mural was commissioned by Jason Deel, the store’s owner. - G Chambers Williams III

  • The woman behind the mural on the Coal Creek General Store, Casey Davey, is a self- taught artist and painter, (usually) stay-at-home mom, and owner of Happy House Mud Works, where she creates pottery. She is originally from Virginia, but now calls Oak Ridge. She and her husband have two young sons. Davey said she is grateful for the op- portunity to paint this mural that everyone will see when driving in downtown Rocky Top. She said she will “work all day and into the night to get this finished on time” for the store’s grand opening this Saturday. She said she hopes young artists will see her work and follow their dreams, too. - G Chambers Williams III
