Despite loss to Huntsville, Lakers see good things from young players

Despite seeing his team come up on the short end of a 65-26 decision against Huntsville on Tuesday, Sept. 26, Lake City Middle School football Coach Brandon Duncan found some positives.

“This is going to sound bad, and’s going to sound a lot worse than it is because we lost 65-26, but we played well,” Duncan said. “We had a sixth-grade quarterback come in and throw three touchdown passes.

“I really saw some potential in him.”

The Lakers (1-6) have been ravaged by injuries all season.

Austin Vaden answered the when called upon.

He threw a touchdown pass to Easton Owens, and followed that up with a successful two-point conversion.

Vaden had a 60-yard scoring strike to Jayden Nolan.

He also had a 70-yard touchdown pass to Calvin Graham.

Owens also had a touchdown pass in the game.

The Lakers played their season finale Tuesday night against Jellico, but results were not available at press time.
