Two new Dodge Charger police cruisers turned out to be the stars of the show as the Norris police and fire departments held their annual “open house” event at the city’s Public Safety Building downtown.

Members of the group Citizens in Support of Norris Police and Fire sponsored the event, which included free hot dogs, chips and drinks provided by the citizens’ group.

Besides getting to see the city’s fire trucks, visitors could see and touch two of the city’s newest police vehicles – a white and a gray Dodge Charger – which have been added to the department’s roster over the past month.

Chief of Police Mike Poole said during last week’s City Council meeting that the Police Department is now at full staff for the first time since 2018.

Recently joining the Police Department was Officer Gabe Hackler, who just completed the required 12-week program at the state’s Law Enforcement Training Academy in Nashville.

“Following two weeks of on-the-job training, he will begin shifts at patrol status,” the chief said. “The addition of Officer Hackler will put the department at full staffing for the first time since 2018. We are grateful to have him with us.”
