Cumberlands students named to President’s List

In recognition of academic performance, the Office of Academic Affairs at University of the Cumberlands, Williamsburg, Kentucky, has announced the students named to the President’s List for the fall 2023 semester.

The list of students includes Kimberly Huskey, Paul Huskey and Lee Alley, of Clinton; Dillon Simpson of Heiskell; George Degenhart of Andersonville; and Logan Carroll of Oak Ridge.

To be eligible for the President’s List, students must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours, maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 4.0 for the semester, receive an “A” grade in UC Engage, and be in good academic standing.



FHU announces President’s, Dean’s Lists

Victoria Baldwin, a senior from Oak Ridge, was named to the Dean’s List at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee. Baldwin is earning a bachelor of science in interdisciplinary studies, with concentration in middle school.

To be included on the Dean’s list, students must have attended full time and earned a minimum 3.4 grade-point average for the semester.

Scholarship applications being accepted

ORNL Federal Credit Union is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2024-25 school year.

Through the ORNL FCU Scholarship Program, a minimum of three scholarships are awarded each school year to deserving students/members who excel in education and social merit: One B.A. Candler Scholarship, one John McKittrick Scholarship, and one David Watkins Scholarship.

The $1,000 scholarships can be used for tuition, books and other school-related expenses.

Only members of ORNL FCU and their families who are enrolled or plan to enroll at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and are pursuing a four-year degree are eligible to compete for the scholarship.

All applicants must complete a FAFSA form for federal student aid, coded for the University of Tennessee. The FAFSA must be filed by Feb. 1, 2024.

New this year is an online application option, but members still have the option to download the application and submit by mail or email.

The ORNL FCU Scholarship applications must be received no later than March 1.

 Applicants are selected by the UT General Scholarship Committee and will be notified directly by the University of Tennessee Financial Aid Office by early June.



FHU announces December graduates

Freed-Hardeman University held its fall commencement ceremony on Dec. 15, 2023, in Loyd Auditorium, where more than 100 students received certificates for associates, baccalaureate, masters and doctoral degrees.

Samuel Cox of Clinton graduated with a bachelor of business administration in marketing.

Honor Society

initiations

Ashlea Forlines and Andrew Righter of Clinton were initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most-selective collegiate honor society for academic disciplines.

Forlines is attending East Tennessee State University.

Righter is attending the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

They are among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year.

Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.

Only the Top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the Top 10 percent may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff, and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
