JOSEPHINE ‘JO’ CHILDRESS RUTHERFORD

Josephine “Jo” Childress Rutherford, 93, Clinton, passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, at Parkwest Medical Center.

She was a member of Clinton Church of Christ.

Preceded in death by: Husband, Carl Rutherford; parents, Clarence and Effie Childress; brothers, Irby and Leonard Childress; and sister, Subie Knight.

She is survived by: Daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Steve Long of Clinton; grandchildren, Brandi Boshears and husband Andrew, and Staci Lollar; great-grandchildren, Rylan Boshears and Pierson and Greyson Lollar; niece, Dianne Apple; great-niece and nephew, Kristen Winters and Kirk Graves; and devoted friend, Diana Thomason.

A special thank you to the staff of Morning Pointe Assisted Living for their love and care for Jo’s over the last 6 years.

A private funeral service will be held Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, with interment following in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

WILBIA PHILLIPS BUNCH

Wilbia Phillips Bunch, 74, Lake City, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, at Select Specialty Hospital in Knoxville.

She was born in Fratersville to the late Ike and Mary Jane Patterson Phillips on Oct. 11, 1944. Wilbia was a member of Laurel Branch Baptist Church. She enjoyed scrapbooking and going to church.

In addition to her parents, Wilbia was preceded in death by: Husband of 53 years, Frank Bunch; and daughter, Cheryl Bunch.

Survivors: Son, Gary Bunch of Clinton; brothers, B.R. Phillips and Julia Fay of Clinton, Laymon Phillips and Rose of Fratersville; sister, Dessie Gibson of Lake City; grandchildren, Dustin, Holly, Corey, Chloe, Austin, Nitsua, and Carter; six great-grandchildren; and a host of many cousins, family and friends.

Visitation will be from 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019, at Hatmaker Funeral Home.

Funeral service is at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel.

Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lake City for a graveside service.

SAMMIE RUTH WALKER DAKE

Sammie Ruth Walker Dake, 71, Heiskell, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019.

Mrs. Dake was a member of Greenway Baptist Church in Wolf Valley and retired from Rex Nord in Clinton. She loved reading her Bible, playing computer games, and taking care of her family.

Preceded in death by: Husband, Donald Dake; parents, Owen and Irene Walker; and sisters, Ollie Hooks and Shirley Sands.

She is survived by: Children, Donna Dake, Reatha (James) Hall, Sarah Brooks and William Ralph Dake; grandchildren, Shanon Conner, Cody Conner and Taylor Guffey, and Tyler Davis; great-grandchild, Journey Guffey; brothers, William (Barbara) Walker and Bob Walker; sisters, Martha (David) Myers and Vivian Kelley; brother-in-law, Dale Dake; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2019, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.

EDIA MAE HATMAKER

Edia Mae Hatmaker, 73, Briceville, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019.

Edia was born on May 9, 1945, in Briceville to the late Urshey and Sarah (Vandergriff) Wilson. She was a member of Tennessee Hollow Baptist Church. Sue loved being outdoors, spending time with family and reading.

In addition to her parents, Edia was preceded in death by her brothers, A.Z., Buddy, Arnold and J.D. Wilson.

She is survived by: Husband, David of Briceville; son, David Wayne of Alabama; daughters, Dawn Guffey and Bruce of Andersonville, Baleria Roach of Briceville, Stacey Hatmaker of Clinton, Rachel Jenkins and Brian of Lake City; brothers, Harold Wilson and Kay of Spencer, J.C. Wilson of Briceville; sister, Mary Ellen McMahan of Lake City; 10 grandchildren; great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.

Funeral service will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dusty Brock and the Rev. Johnny Owens officiating.

Friends and Family will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, to go in funeral procession to the Seeber Cemetery, Briceville, for an 11 a.m. graveside service.

ANN RUTH NYGARD

Ann Ruth Nygard, 91, Oak Ridge, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, at Summit View of Farragut.

She was born Sept. 9, 1927, in Shelbyville.She was the daughter of George Wesley Armstrong and Katie Virginia Gregory Armstrong. She moved with her parents to Oak Ridge in 1944 and was a 1945 graduate of Oak Ridge High School. She was a member of Clinton Church of Christ, and enjoyed working alongside her husband at Hillbrook Christian Camp and its summer programs for youth. She was a sweet, caring lady, and a loving mother.

Mrs. Nygard was preceded in death by: Husband of 51 years, Myron (Mike) Nygard; parents; and all of her eight siblings.

Mrs. Nygard is survived by: Two daughters, Kathy Caudle and husband Rick of Farragut, and Pam Nygard of Oak Ridge; two sons, Jim Nygard and wife Lois, and Marty Nygard and wife April, all of Oak Ridge; she is also survived by five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home Clinton from 5 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019.

A graveside service will be held at Oak Ridge Memorial Park at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019.

The family asks that any memorials to be made to Hillbrook Christian Camp, in care of Herman Herren, 712 Riverbend Road, Clinton, TN 37716.

LUCILLE PHILLIPS

Lucille Phillips, 91, left this world Feb. 7, 2019, to be reunited in Heaven with loved ones who have gone on before her: Precious children, Baby Phillips, Joyce Ann Phillips, and only son, Winford Lee Phillips; grandson, Jeffrey Lynn Powell; mother and father, Rhoda Ann Powell Stringfield and Andrew Jackson Stringfield; husband, Wilford Phillips; sister, Mable Lee Phillips; and dearest friend, Dorothy Hill.

Left to mourn her passing are: Three daughters, Wilma (Doug) Powell, Brenda (Doug) Petrowski, and Karen (Steve) Webber; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; special friends, Anna Mae Rucker, Sharon Rucker and Sue Miles.

OSCAR WEBBER

Oscar Webber, 88, Clinton, passed away at home surrounded by his family Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019.

In the early 1960’s Oscar enjoyed working in the logging industry. He loved cutting down the logs and hauling them with his horse, Jim. When done he would turn Jim lose and tell him go home and Jim would be waiting at the house on Oscar. He eventually left the logging industry and started mowing and cleaning graves at Sunset Cemetery in the early 1970’s. He worked there off and on for more than 20 years. He also mowed yards for people throughout the years plus he loved gardening and raising chickens. He loved to plant tomatoes the most and grow some of the biggest watermelons. He had many different kinds of chickens and roosters over the years. He also enjoyed working with wood — building things from log cabins to swings to put in the log cabins. He was a man of many talents and a very patient one too. Oscar loved to share stories with his family when they came to visit him. He loved all his family dearly especially the love of his life his wife, who he called Doll.

Oscar was preceded in death by: Father, Bill Webber, and mother, Frances Currier Webber; daughter, Brenda Sue Webber; six brothers; and five sisters.

He is survived by: Wife of 61 years, Ruby B. Webber; children, Rose Ann Webber, Wanda Jean Webber and husband Calvin, Carolyn Faye Webber, Sam Edward Webber and wife Kelly, David Wane Webber and wife Loretta, Jimmy Webber and wife Tonya; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Oscar’s family will receive his friends from 6- 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, in the chapel of Jones Mortuary with the Rev. Larry Burchfield officiating.

His interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, at Farmers Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Clinton.

BILLIE ELZABETH BRADEN

Billie Elizabeth Braden, 78, Clinton, went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019.

She was born in Lake City Sept. 23, 1940, to the late Carl and Maggie Braden Goans. Billie was a member of Bell’s Campground Baptist Church. She enjoyed studying her Bible and doing needle point.

In addition to her parents, Billie was preceded in death by husband, Robert F. Braden.

Survived by: Sons, Carl (Tammy) Braden, Neal (Sandy) Braden; grandchildren, Adam (Kellie) Braden, Ashlyn Braden, Jordan (Ashley) Braden, Chandler (Kendall) Braden, and Gavin Braden; great-grandchildren, Briley, Eleanor and Weston; special friends: Jan Cox, Larry and Sherry Rob-bins.

The family received friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Jason Goans, the Rev. Keith Tillman and the Rev. Larry Webster. Family and friends met at the funeral home at 10:30 Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, and went in funeral procession to Grandview Memorial Gardens for an 11 a.m. interment.
