Martha Jane White, 86, Myrtle Beach, S.C., passed away Wednesday Jan. 16, 2019, at her residence.
Martha was born May 20, 1932, to the late Bruce Worthington and Effie Russell. She was of the Baptist faith and loved cooking, baking, gardening, and tending to her vegetables and flowers.
Martha was preceded in death by: Husbands, Raymond Leonard Cox II, Robert White; sons, Raymond Leonard Cox III, Jerry Cox, and Christopher Cox.
Survivors: Sons, Sam Cox of Clinton, John Cox and Vicky of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; daughter, Pam Youakim of Caryville; numerous grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019 at Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel in Lake City.
Funeral service will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Mike Foust officiating.
Friends and Family will meet at Sunset Cemetery in Clinton at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, for interment.

Mary Ruth Jennings, 80, Caryville, went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
She was saved at an early age and was a member of Pine Ridge Baptist Church. She was a retired nurse and worked at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge for many years.
She is preceded in death by: Husband, Everett Jennings; parents, Clyde and Alline Rains; son-in-law, Mike Leach; and brother, Jim Rains.
Survivors include: Son, Tim Jennings and wife Cheerful of Knoxville; daughter, Tammie Leach of Jacksboro; son, Terry Jennings and wife Ashley of Christ; brother, Jackie Rains of Caryville; granddaughters, Ashley Lawson and husband Jeremy, Courtney Leach and fiancé Michael Killon, Mary Beth McGown and husband Shawn; grandsons, Elijah Jennings, Rhett and Will Jennings; great-grandchildren, Alivia and Mia Lawson, Reid and Benson McGown, Bentley and Ezrah Killon; and a host of other family and friends.
The family received friends from 5 – 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Rocky Top with the funeral service following at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Clifford Fraker, the Rev. Cody Dykes, and the Rev. Lonnie Weldon officiating.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at Ridgeview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Bradley Oglesby, 71, Heiskell, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2019, peacefully at his home.
He was a devoted Christian, loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a Marine and proud member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.
Bradley was preceded in death by: Betty Oglesby; daughter, April Carlton; great-grandson, Joel Sumlin; parents, Pat and Clara Oglesby; siblings; Betty, Ben, Pat, Juanita, James, Carolyn, Charlie, and Gwen.
Bradley is survived by: Children, Brad Oglesby, Becky Mase, Anita Oglesby, Austin Oglesby, Felicia Oglesby and Michael Oglesby; siblings, Donald, Sandra, and Ronnie; 14 grandchildren, Adam Carlton, Briana Rookard, Brooke Treadway, D.J. Sumlin, Ariel Brooks, Landon Sumlin, Alex Mase, Aron Mase, Lacey Oglesby, Bradley Oglesby, Camden Oglesby, Cadance Oglesby; and two grandchildren from Michael Oglesby; three great-grandchildren, Jaxon Sumlin, AnnaClaire Rookard, and Arlo Carlton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Bradley’s family will receive friends from 3 – 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 1412 E Wolf Valley Road, Heiskell. His funeral service will be at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Stanley Hawkins officiating.
Bradley will receive full military honors directly following the service.

Jeffery (Jeff) Norman Slone, Clinton, Anderson County, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, in an accident near Balkan, Ky.
He was 56 years young.
He was preceded in death by: Father, Ezra Donald Slone; mother, Barbara Dee “Susie” Slone.
He is survived by: Wife, Mable Ruth “Sam;” children — son, Matthew Slone and wife Jessica of Clinton, daughter, Sarah Slone Walker and husband Chris of Knoxville, adopted daughter,r Amanda Newcomer and children Kingston, Zoie and Scarlett; brothers, Robert Michael, Timothy Kevin (wife Kimberly), and Patrick Donald; three grandchildren, Gabriella Reece, Zavier Matthew, Tyson Ezra; nephews Thomas (wife Cecelia) and Bryan; and niece, Kacy (husband Andy).
He was born in Benham, Ky. He was of the Baptist faith and a graduate of the Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Pineville, Ky, BS of Ministry 1991; a pastor of several churches, Big Prater Baptist Church of Vansant, Va, Piney Grove Baptist Church of Midtown, Coolidge First Baptist Church of Lafollette, and Pastor of Evangelism at Second Baptist Church of Clinton. Jeff was an Eagle Scout. Jeff was a fervent servant of the Lord.
A memorial service will held Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at Second Baptist Church in Clinton; visitation was from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.; and a memorial service was held at 2 p.m.

KATHRYN HUMPHREYS CHILDRESS

Kathryn Humphreys Childress, Clinton, known to friends as "Kathy,” and to family as “Kaki," passed away Jan. 14, at the age of 92 years.
A native of Forked Deer, Kathy graduated from Brownsville High School in 1944. She worked at ESSO Standard Oil Company’s office in Memphis, where she met her future husband, John Childress, who at that time was a co-op student at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
Kathy was a homemaker, devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a friend to all. Her Christian faith was central in her life, having worshipped and served for nearly six decades at First Baptist Church in Clinton. She was particularly fond of the Madonna Sunday School class and cherished friendships with fellow class members. Kathy loved being with people and had a way of making everyone feel special, frequently putting others’ interests ahead of her own.
“Kaki” will be lovingly remembered by: John, her husband of 68 years; her daughter, Susan Corrigan of New Berlin, Wisc.; and her son, Milt Childress (Carol) of Charlotte, N.C.; her grandchildren, Tyler Corrigan (Joni) of Minneapolis, Minn., Emily Corrigan (Jeff) of Madison, Wisc., Caroline Corrigan of Milwaukee, Wisc., Alex Childress Slabaugh (Drew) of Charlotte, N.C., Gracie Childress Lobão (Vitor) of San Francisco, Calif., and John Childress of Atlanta, Ga.; and her great-grandchildren Audrey, Norah and Calvin Corrigan.
Kathy will also be fondly remembered by several nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by: Brother Odis Humphreys and his wife, Opal; and her sister Helen Eaton.
A celebration of Kathy’s life was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton, with Dr. Michael Prince officiating.
The family received friends following her service. Kathy’s graveside service was private.

NORMA DEAN CROWLEY

Norma Dean Crowley, 80, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at the Waters of Clinton.
She was born Jan. 25, 1938, to the late Sam and Vinnie Lloyd McGill in Campbell County. Norma was a member of Beech Park Baptist Church and loved attending when she was able. She was a dedicated mother and loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by: Husband, Chester Crowley; and daughter, Kathy Crowley.
Survived by: Sons, Cecil Crowley and wife Debbie of Clinton, Chester Crowley and Victoria Delgado of Knoxville; daughter, Teresa Crowley of Florida; grandchildren, Ben Crowley, Daniel Noor and Sharina Noor; great-grandchildren, Ethan Crowley and Maddox Noor; several nieces and nephews.
Norma’s graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019, at Grandview Memorial Gardens.

John Wayne Courtney, 74, Kingston, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019.
A graduate of the class of 1963 from Norris High School, John proudly enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1963 to 1972 where he earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He continued as a member of the American Legion. John’s occupation for the last 34 years has been as a truck driver.
John was preceded in death by: Parents, John H. and Lois Marie (Moore) Courtney; sisters, Celinda Courtney and Gail Stallings.
John has been married to his high school sweetheart, Janis Halk Courtney since 1966: Together they have Thomas Courtney of Harriman, Becky King of Harriman, Randall L. Courtney and wife Rene of Genoa, Ill.; bonus children, Anissa Gardner of Georgia, Nancy Parker of Louisiana, Darrell Long of Oklahoma, Lynn Wilcox of Colorado; siblings, Larry Courtney and wife Christine; Pam Testa, Randall K. Courtney and Becky E. Forbus; grandchildren, Tali, Caleb, Ashley, Aaron-John, Emma, Christa; great-grandchildren, Aubrielle and Alister; six bonus grandchildren and seven bonus great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other friends and family.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, at the Clinton Chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home.
Family and friends will meet following the visitation at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Governor John Sevier Hwy. in Strawberry Plains at 2 p.m.

WALTER RUSSELL HENSLEY JR.

Walter Russel Hensley Jr., 75, Kingston, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving wife, family and friends.
He was born Aug. 16, 1943, in Akron, Ohio, and moved to East Tennessee in 1957. He was a United States Navy veteran who loved his country. Walter retired as a plant manager for a printing corporation after working 30 years in the Atlanta area and 15 years in Chattanooga. He was a member of Kingston United Methodist Church and also a member and Ranger at Lakeside Golf Course where he made a “hole in one” in September of 2015. Besides being an avid golfer, Walter enjoyed fishing, boating and music. He and his wife, Brenda, had their own band for more than 15 years.
Preceded in death by: Sons, Walter Hensley III and Gregory Wayne Hensley; parents, Walter Russel Hensley Sr. and Marie Wilkinson Hensley.
Survivors: Loving wife of 56 years, Brenda Joyce Lowe Hensley of Kingston; sister, Sally Ann Thomas and husband Bob of Acworth, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Patricia Mills of Hixson, Janice Carriger of Spring City; special cousins, Tom, Steve, and Phil Hensley, all of Kingston; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. - noon, Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at Fraker Funeral Home with Celebration of Life following at noon in the chapel with the Rev. Sue Lynn Johnson presiding.
Continuation of Celebration will be held from 1 – 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, at Lakeside Golf Course in the Club House, 736 Paint Rock Ferry Road in Kingston, with military honors conducted by the Roane County Honor Guard.
