LUCILLE BEETS

Lucille Beets, 82, Clinton, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at her residence.

She was born in Campbell County to the late Lawrence Cooper on March 7, 1937. Lucille was a member of Farmer’s Grove Baptist Church.

Survived by: Husband of 59 years, Moss Beets; sons, Larry Beets and wife Rosetta, Jerry Beets and wife Linda; daughter, Brenda Brown and husband Brian; sister, Wilma Jean Myers; beloved grandchildren, Karlee Beets and Eli Beets

The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 6 p.m. with the Rev. David White officiating.

DONALD RAY WILSON

Donald Ray Wilson, better known as, “Don,” 77, Briceville, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family and grandkids very much. Don loved the Lord and his church, Light House Church of God in Lake City, where he was a member. He enjoyed watching Gunsmoke. Don had a kind heart and would help anyone in every way he could. He enjoyed life with his family, laughing and joking around.

Don was preceded in death by: Parents, Fisher and Myrtle Wilson; brothers, Larry Wilson and Jr. Wilson; sisters, Ruby West and Evelyn Schaffer.

Don is survived by: Wife, Rosa Lee Wilson of 52 years of Briceville; sons, Paul Wilson and wife Debora of Lake City, and Donnie Wilson and wife Tammy of Lake City; brother, Paul Wilson and wife Brenda of Caryville; sisters, Karen Kennedy and husband Ricky of Briceville, and Joyce Sharp of Briceville; granddaughter, Lanita Johnston and husband Jay; grandsons, Donnie Jr. and Dustin Wilson; great-grandchildren, Lilly Johnston, and Tegan Johnston; and a host of other nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Don’s family will receive his friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2019, with his funeral service to follow at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Jones Mortuary in Clinton, with the Rev. Estel Sharp and the Rev. Jamie Brewster officiating.

Don’s interment will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Circle Cemetery in Briceville.

MARY LYNN (WOODS) BYRD

On Monday, May 27, 2019, Mary Lynn (Woods) Byrd, Rocky Top, became one of heaven’s angels.

Born Sept. 4, 1947, to parents S.B. and Mildred (Hatmaker) Woods, she was a graduate of Man High School in Man, W.Va., and attended Marshall University in West Virginia.

She was preceded in death by: Father, S.B. Woods; brother, Brian Woods; sister, Francis Woods; grandmother, Ethel Hatmaker; grandfather, Ben Hatmaker; aunts and uncles on the Woods and Hatmaker sides.

Survived by: Mother, Mildred Woods; sister, Betty Jo (B.J.) Pace and husband John; brother, Terry Woods and wife Rita; sons, Tim Taylor and wife Deanna, and James Taylor and wife Sondra; grandchildren, Brandon, Kiersten, Braelyn, and Michael Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

She fought a long hard battle of heart and kidney disease and is suffering no more.

A very special “thank you” for the love and care of the south floor nurses at Summit View and University of Tennessee Hospice.

Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Rocky Top, with service following.

Pastor Wayne Phillips from Main Street Baptist Church is officiating.

The interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest next to her father and brother.

AMY LeANN BROWN

Amy LeAnn Brown, 44, Knoxville, passed away May 27, 2019, at Summit View in Rocky Top.

She was of Christian faith. She attended Pellissippi State Community College where she earned a degree in financial management. She was a voracious reader and an extremely articulate writer. She had a special place in her heart for stray animals, and they loved her as well. Though without question the most glowing quality she will be remembered for was her inexorable love and compassion for her children.

She was preceded in death by: Mother and father, David and Lola Smith; grandparents, John and Betty Lamb; grandfather, Millard Smith; and her beloved adoptive mother, Aunt Jean Pinkston.

Amy is survived by: Daughters, Candace Warrick and Lily Brown; brother, John Dee Smith; grandmother, Kathryn Smith; uncle and aunt, Jr. and Charlotte Smith; aunt, Brenda Clark; uncle and aunt, Earl and Linda Lamb, all of Knoxville; aunt and uncle, Kathy and Gary Hall of Chickamauga, Ga.; dear friend and roommate, Carrie Cardwell; and all of the staff at Summit View at Rocky Top.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2019, at Living Waters Baptist Church, located at 3315 E. Emory Road, Knoxville, with Pastor Jamie Webber officiating.

BETTY J. BOYD (WORD)

Betty J. Boyd (Word), 82, passed away Wednesday May 22, 2019, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 8, 1936, in Coal Creek to the late Charles Word and Ida Belle Word (Lindsay). She was a long-standing member of Main Street Baptist Church in Rocky Top. She lived in Toledo, Ohio, for 30 years and 52 years in Lake City. She worked at Metcraft, Rite Aid in Toledo, and as a CNA in Toledo and Lake City for nursing homes for many years. She loved Football and Basketball and especially the Tennessee Lady Vols. She was very active with her great-grandchildren, Austin Boyd and Alex Boyd, that she was raising, plus all their friends. They all called her, “Grandma.” She loved cats and her beloved dog, Princess.

Betty was preceeded in death by: Parents, Charles Word, Ida Belle Word (Lindsay); sons, Dee Dee Boyd and Terry Boyd; ex-husband, Billie Jack Boyd.

Survived by: Sister, Maggie S. Lively; daughter-in-Law, Vickie Boyd; grandchildren, Billie Boyd and Nichole Boyd; great-grandchildren, Austin Boyd, Amber Sexton and Alex Boyd; and nephew, Michael Lively and wife Melissa Lively.

WILLIAM TRAVIS WILDER

William Travis Wilder, better known as, “Travis,” 33, Clinton, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2019, in Knoxville.

Travis was proud of his family and they all were very important to him.

Travis was preceded in death by: Father, Donald Wilder; and brother, Brandon Wilder.

He is survived by: Aunt and uncle, Peggy and Dennis Cornett, whom he called his Mam and Pop of Clinton; daughter, Lilly; brothers, Ron Wilder and wife Cortney of Harlan, Ky., and their children, Kylie, Garrett, and Gibson, Justin Wilder of Maynardville, and his children, Evan, Chelsea, and Tate, Wesley

Wilder of Clinton, and Christopher Wilder of Maynardville; and sister, Dawn Middleton and husband James of Kentucky; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Travis’s family will have a memorial service for him at a later date and will be announced by Jones Mortuary.

RONALD (RONNIE) KIRKLEY RICHARDS SR.

Ronald (Ronnie) Kirkley Richards Sr., 75, Madisonville, Texas was called home Sunday, May 19, 2019.

Ron was born June 15, 1943, in Tuscaloosa, Ala. He was a long-time resident of Lake City, and graduated Class of 62. He was the son of Bob and Polly Richards. Following in his family’s tradition of military service, Ron joined the Navy becoming a Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class with the Fleet Marine Forces.

Ron was a devoted husband, father, and doting grandfather, who enjoyed retired life, working in the yard, and being with his grandchildren. Ron was retired from MD Anderson. He volunteered with Scouts, HLSR, 1st EMS and The American Legion. He always said, "It is a way to give back for the many blessings I have been given."

Ron was preceded in death by: Father; mother; son, Kirk Jr.; and adoptive dad, Bob Richards.

He is survived by: Loving wife of 49 years, Delores Mott Richards of Madisonville, Texas; mother-in-law, Pauline Mott of Houston, Texas; brother, Brad Richards of Alvin, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Kirk and Amey Richards of Woodstock, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Michaelle and Gene Whitesides of Madisonville, Texas; grandchildren, Barret and Morgan Whitesides, Noah and Cosette Richards; several in-laws, nieces, nephews, and an abundance of extended family and friends.

Funeral Service was held at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home in Friendswood, Texas.

His final resting place will be Houston National Cemetery.

JERRY LYNN STOOKSBURY

Jerry Lynn Stooksbury, 77, passed away Friday, May 17, 2019, at his home in Chandler, Ariz.

He was born Jan. 9, 1942, in Lake City, the son of late Bill and Ruthie Stooksbury. He was the oldest of four siblings.

Jerry graduated from Lake City High School in 1960 and went on to serve four years in the United States Air Force. He later retired from Honeywell. Jerry enjoyed cooking, eating, singing, and watching a good western. He adored his two puppies, Elvis and Zoe.

He is survived by: Daughter, Sheri Deal of Arizona; and his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Marcy Stooksbury of Oregon; grandchildren, Brandon Martin Aldecoa, Chase Warren Deal, Cole William Deal, Bryce Alexander Hudson Stooksbury, and Casey Erika Stooksbury; sister and brother-in-law, Gail and Jim Burnette; brother and sister-in-law, Maurice and Carolyn Stooksbury; brother, Mike Stooksbury.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; and his grandparents, Fletcher and Ethel Parrott.

A service will be held at Norris Memorial Gardens at 10 a.m. June 22, 2019.
