THOMAS BURNS

Thomas Burns, 54, Kingston, passed away Friday, June 15, 2018, at his home.

He was born April 19, 1964, in Harriman. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Harriman. He was a mechanic for Mikes Auto Body in Harriman before his battle with cancer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved riding dirt bikes. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Devona Burns.

Survivors: Domestic partner, Rachelle Howard of Kingston; brother, Samuel E. Burns and wife Mitzi of Knoxville; sister, Mary Lee Birnbaum of Kingston; nephews, Jack Birnbaum of Maryville, Ian Birnbaum of Knoxville, Samuel E. Burns Jr. of Knoxville, Hayden Thomas Burns of Knoxville; niece, Marilyn Elise Thompson of Maryville.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Fraker Funeral Home with graveside service immediately following at Poplar Springs Cemetery with the Rev. Ronnie Nickell officiating.

C.E. PATTERSON

C.E. Patterson, 63, Lake City, passed away June 15, 2018, at his residence.

C.E. was born Oct. 23, 1954, in Oak Ridge to the late Elmer and Billie Joyce Phillips Patterson. C.E. attended West Side Baptist Church. He enjoyed camping, NASCAR, and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, C.E. was preceded in death by: Wife, Bernice Patterson; sister, Kathy Phillips; and brother, Ray Patterson.

Survivors: Sons, Michael Patterson and Amy of Blackshear, Ga., Justin Patterson and Jodi of Oakdale, Adam Patterson of Coalfield; daughter, Stephanie of Sevierville; brothers, Kenny Patterson of Lake City, Alvin Patterson and Veronica of Clinton; sisters, Helen and Dennis Powers of Lake City, Bertha Phillips of Clinton; grandchildren, Cody, Kyle, Craig, Kayleigh, Natalie, and Keira; special friends, Wallace and Jean Thurman of Knoxville; a host of many nieces and nephews and many friends.

Visitation was held from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2018, at the Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.

Funeral service was held at 8 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2018, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Sharp and the Rev. Tom Byrge officiating.

Interment was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Patterson Cemetery in New River.

BROOKE PUTNAM

Brooke Putnam, 22, Kingston, formerly of Clyde, N.C., passed away Friday, June 15, 2018, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.

She was born May 12, 1996 in Sylva, N.C., and was a member of Woodland Baptist Church in Waynesville, N.C. She has been a resident of Kingston for the past two years and was also a member of the Roane County Writer’s Society. During her writing career, she had several published articles. She was an avid horse lover and enjoyed spending time with her horse, Tonto. She also helped many through her blogs concerning her journey with Cystic Fibrosis. Preceded in death by her sister, Ona Putnam.

Survivors: Grandparents who raised her as their own, Edward and Betty Anderson of Kingston; mother, Whitney Schmidt of Ashville, N.C.; father, Joey Putnam and wife Joy of Hoschton, Ga.; grandmother, Diane Yarski of Clyde, N.C.; grandfathers, Verlin Putnam of Canton, N.C., Lee Ewart and wife Brenda of Sylva, N.C.; sister, Jadyn Schmidt of Ashville, N.C.; Cyster and best friend, Elisabeth McClintock of N. Little Rock, Ark.; a host of Cysters who have supported Brooke during her struggle with Cystic Fibrosis.

The family received friends from 11 a.m. – noon Monday, June 18, 2018, at New Midway Baptist Church with the Rev. Rod Garrett, the Rev. Brent Forsythe and Jamie Jordan officiating.

Interment followed the service at New Midway Baptist Church Cemetery.

LINDA MARIE YEAGER

Linda Marie Yeager, 57, Clinton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, June 15, 2018, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

She was a native of York, Penn., before moving to Atlanta, making her home there for 17 years. Linda and her family then relocated to Knoxville in 2001 before moving to Clinton in 2007. She was the only daughter of the late Donald and Suzanne Hershey Geisler.

Linda graduated from college with her BS degree in speech pathology and enjoyed working for several years prior to her illness. She attended Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Knoxville.

Linda was a beautiful bright light to those around her, to know Linda was to love her. She was kind, loving, brave, giving, peaceful, strong and goodhearted. Linda’s friends and family were blessed and better people for having known her. She truly was an angel among us.

Against all odds, Linda fought courageously for her family and friends after being diagnosed with stage four cancer in 2006. Her amazing and miraculous fight, as well as her faith in God, will forever be an inspiration to all... She will always be our hero. Linda will be missed but will remain in the hearts of all who knew her forever.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory and legacy: Loving, devoted husband of 34 years, Jay Yeager; one son, D.J. Yeager of Johnson City; one daughter, Maggie Yeager of Knoxville; one brother, Dale Geisler and wife Patty of Ft. Lauderdale; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Margaret Yeager of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Kelly Turner and husband Mark; one niece, Sasha Wright; and one nephew, Shelby Geisler.

The family received friends from noon – 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was conducted by Father Tom Charters at 1 p.m. Interment followed in the Roselawn Memory Gardens.

Hailee Jo Day, 6, Jacksboro, went to be with the Lord Monday, June 4, 2018, at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital in Knoxville.

Hailee was born in Oak Ridge on Dec. 25, 2011.

Hailee was preceded in death by: Grandparents, Olin and Ann Day.

Survivors: Parents, Roger and Bree Day of Jacksboro; grandparents, Kim Harness, Larry and Terri Davidson; sisters, Emily, Natalya and Kimber; very special people in Hailee’s life, Kala Mason, Lisa Marlow, Michelle Stanley, Pamela Rambo, Elizabeth Byrd, Felicia Bertram; and a host of aunts, uncles and other family members.

Visitation was held from 1 – 3 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.

PAULA JEANNE NICKELL STEVENS

Paula Jeanne Nickell Stevens departed this life June 9, 2018, at the age of 78.



Along with her family, Paula made her home for the past 40 years at the Fountain City Sportsmen’s Club on Norris Lake in Andersonville.

Paula was an elegant, kind, gentle, patient, beautiful, smart and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was an outstanding homemaker and cook and thoroughly enjoyed preparing wonderful meals for her family. Paula was also an outstanding craft person and artist. She would quickly excel at whatever piqued her interest and her most recent endeavors in quilting and stained glass resulted in many beautiful art works which will be treasured for years to come by her friends and family. Paula also dearly loved, nurtured and protected animals and wildlife of all kinds.

Paula was sadly preceded in passing by: Beautiful oldest daughter, Gayle Stevens; and her brother, Mark Nickell.

She is survived by her loving and devoted family: Husband of 62 years, Jon; brother, David (Marci) Nickell and niece Sarah; daughter, Janet (Steve) Weaver; daughter, Deede (Tim) Hunsucker; and son, Jon (Melissa) Stevens.

Paula also left behind: Loving grandchildren, Morgan (Matt) Godfrey, Tony (Afi) Hunsucker, Kelsey Weaver, Faith Stevens, and Jessica Stevens; great-grandchildren, Murphy Hunsucker and Emery Godfrey; and by her friends at her craft Club.

Paula also left behind a wonderful sister-in-law, Eleanor Wightman and her family in Michigan who cared for Jon, Paula and their family during Gayle’s illness.

The family would also like to express their appreciation for the hard working and caring staff at MMC, Oak Ridge, particularly the third and fourth Floor nursing staff, CVSU staff and to an outstanding nurse practitioner, Jessica Whaley.

MICHAEL ‘MIKE’ BRADEN

Michael “Mike” Wayne Braden, 68, Rocky Top, went to be with the Lord June 9, 2018.

He was born Sept. 1, 1949, in Oliver Springs to the late Calvin and Opal Parks Braden.

He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: Infant sister, Doris Gale; and brothers, Monte Ray and Darrel Glenn.

He is survived by: Loving wife of 24 years, Nancy Braden; children, Shannon Braden, Sharon Toler and husband Glenn, Mickey Braden, Megan Braden, Rachel Talley and husband Jason, Matthew Braden and fiancé Kim, Daniel Whitehead; grandchildren, Paige Pryor and husband Wayne, Michael Webber, Trace Webber, Darrell Toler and wife Whitley, Brooke Toler, Emily Toler, C.J.
