ERNEST EUGENE ‘UNCLE BUCK’ WARD

Ernest Eugene “Uncle Buck” Ward, 64, Clinton, passed away Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

He was born in Oliver Springs to the late Earnest Ward and Irene Chamblee Bragg on Aug. 31, 1953. Uncle Buck was a collector of all things. He loved auctions and flea markets, the challenges of a casino, fishing, playing video games, and helping everyone and anyone in need. Uncle Buck’s favorite part of Christmas was purchasing “Christmas Wishes” from the Christmas Tree. He felt that he was doing his part to make sure a child had a Christmas. Uncle Buck was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and a diehard Cubs fan.

Uncle Buck was preceded in death by: Mother, Irene Chamblee Bragg; father, Earnest Ward; and brother, Bobby Ward.

Survivors: Son, Matthew Ward and wife Ashlee of College Station, Texas; sisters, Deborah Sentell of Clinton, Brenda Price and husband John of Wood Dale, Ill.; brothers, Billy Ward and wife Lisa of Aurora, Ill., Arthur Bragg and wife Tracy of Libertyville, Ill., Jerome Bragg of Oak Ridge, David Bragg of North Carolina; grandson, Myles; several nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Visitation was from 1 – 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.

Funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with Uncle Buck’s brother, Jerome Bragg, officiating.

A graveside service was held following the funeral service on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at the Mountain View Cemetery in Lake City with Kim O’Dell officiating.

WELBY ‘LEO’ WARWICK

Welby “Leo” Warwick, 83, Clinton, passed away Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at Physicians Regional Medical Center in Knoxville.

He was born Nov. 5, 1933, to the late Admiral Dewey and Willie Edna Demarcus Warwick in Anderson County. Leo was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: Brother, Cleo Warwick; sisters, Naomi Weaver, and Roby McCarrell.

Survived by: Wife, Jessie Maureen Warwick; daughter, Cindy Bailey and husband Gary of Clinton; brother, Wilbur Warwick and wife Jackie; several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

The family received friends at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton from 5 – 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, with the funeral service following at 7 p.m. with the Rev. J.C. Newman and the Rev. Darryl Taylor officiating.

Graveside services were held y 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis.

ALICE HUNTER WOODFIN

Alice Ann Hunter Woodfin, 81, Kingston, passed away Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, at her home with her husband, Sam, by her side.

She was born March 2, 1936, in South Pittsburg and was a graduate of South Pittsburg High School. She has been a resident of Roane County since 1955 and was of the Primitive Baptist faith. She was an accomplished ceramic artist, an exceptional floral designer, avid baker and very talented in crocheting and cross stitching. Ann also enjoyed fishing but loved babies and spending time with her family.

Preceded in death by: Parents, Lee and Sarah Elizabeth Parker Hunter; brother, James Samuel Hunter.

Survivors: Husband of 62 years, Sam B. Woodfin of Kingston; children, Sammy L. Woodfin and wife Rhonda of Andersonville, Lizanne W. Yount and husband Tom of Kingsport; grandchildren, Ashley Beret Arnold and husband Lucas of Knoxville, Sara Joelle Meyer and husband John of Norris, Kevin Thomas Yount of Kingsport, Rachel Elizabeth Yount of Washington, D.C.; five great-grandchildren; sister, Sarah June Moss and husband Jerry Don of South Pittsburg; several extended family members and many dear friends

Special appreciation to the fine nurses and caregivers of Covenant Hospice for all the excellent care shown during Ann’s illness.

Family and friends will met at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at Kingston Memorial Gardens for a graveside service with Elder John Robbins officiating.

MRS. SUE HELEN HOLLADAY HALE

Mrs. Sue Helen Holladay Hale, Clinton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home to be with her Lord Sept. 1, 2017.

She was the last of 12 children born to Carlie Bertrand Holladay and Josie Crider Holladay on Feb. 2, 1928 near Huntingdon. She graduated as valedictorian from Huntingdon High School and attended Nashville Business College. She began her work career at Y-12 in Oak Ridge. Besides being a homemaker, she also worked for Horace Wells at the Clinton Courier News.

She had many passions, but most notably she was known for her cooking and tending to her husband, children, and grandchildren; traveling via bus tours and cruises; and enjoying the beauty of flowers. She was an avid sports enthusiast for UT football, Atlanta Braves baseball, and Pat Summitt and the Lady Vols. She lived her life in a Christlike manner and faithfully attended the Clinton Church of Christ. She never knew a stranger and treated everyone like family. Her heartfelt love of others was reciprocated by many, and she will be dearly missed.

Sue`s favorite Bible verse was: Matthew 7:12, “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”

She is survived by: Husband of 65 years, Byron Hale; daughter, Debby Spann (Mark) of Clinton; and son, Tim Hale (Melinda) of Nolensville; four grandchildren, Kevin Spann (Tasha) of Clinton, Austin Hale (Erin) of Nolensville, Tyler Spann (Brittney) of LaVergne, and Lauren Eubanks (Brent) of Nashville; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: Parents; four sisters; and seven brothers.

CLETA MARIE GUY LOVELACE

Cleta Marie Guy Lovelace, 81, Clinton, passed away Sept. 1, 2017, at Canterfield Assisted Living.

Cleta was of the Baptist faith and was born January 23, 1936, in Briceville to the late Drexel and Lillie Hatmaker.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by: First husband, Ralph Van Guy; second husband, Albert Lovelace; son, Ralph Van Guy Jr.; greatgrandson, Zachary Arender.

She is survived by: Children, Sherrie Larkin, David Lee Guy (Mary), Tammy Braden (Carl), and Bobby Van Guy (David Ensley); seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Hatmaker, Wilma Dew (Joe), Glenna Chamberlain; sister-in-law, Mary Graves.

The family received friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home. Her funeral service followed in the chapel with the Rev. Tom Byrge and the Rev. Keith Tillman officiating.

Cleta’s graveside service was at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at Grandview Memorial Garden.

Pallbearers were Bobby Van Guy, Carl Braden, Adam Braden, Darryl Arender, Elijah Arender, and Jonah Arender, and David Ensley.

MR. AUBRY DEAN McGHEE

Funeral services for Mr. Aubry Dean McGhee, 82, of Manchester, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at Coffee County Funeral Chapel.

Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. McGhee passed away Sept. 3, 2017, at Unity Medical Center in Manchester.

Aubry was born in Campbell County, the son of the late Caleb and Bessie Byrge McGhee. He was a self-employed mechanic. In earlier years, he owned several grocery stores and worked in the coal mining business as coal miner, coal truck owner, and mechanic. He was a member of the Masonry Lodge of Campbell County. Aubry enjoyed keeping up with current events, watching old classic movies, collecting coins, and loved being outside under the shade tree. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Campbell County.

In addition to his parents, Aubry was also preceded in death by: Sisters, Gerene Cross and Sue McGhee; son-in-law, Mike Phillips; grandson, Benjamin Cox; granddaughter, Holly Jernigan; great-granddaughter, Emmalynn Jernigan; and great-great-granddaughter, Mia Elam.

He is survived by: Loving wife, Lorenia McGhee of Manchester; four daughters, Kathy Phillips, Gloria Cox, Bonnie (Steve) Scullin, and Debbie Housley; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

MRS. ELLA SUE TATE

Mrs. Ella Sue Tate, Oliver Springs, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through 10 grueling months of pain. Yet even throughout her own struggle, she faithfully cared for family and friends through many ways including prayers, cards, food, and phone calls. She possessed a true servant’s heart and always put the needs of others before her own. She was a woman of strong faith, believing in the power of Jesus Christ’s love and the beauty and peace that would await her after her passing. With a real zest for life, Sue loved to read, send cards, go for walks, play bridge, travel, and chat with family and friends ... Just to name a few.

She was born April 7, 1938, in Norris to George and Georgia Reynolds. Sue graduated as the valedictorian from Norris High School in 1956. She married Frederick Gene Tate on June 8, 1957. They were happily married for 60 years. From 1966 to 1973, they lived in Saudi Arabia and worked for ARAMCO. Sue worked at Y12 for 35 years and retired in 1993. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Oliver Springs.

Sue was preceded in death by: Parents, George and Georgia Reynolds of Norris; and sister, Jelna Reynolds Beaty (Royce) of Norris.

Sue is survived by: Beloved husband, Fred, of Oliver Springs; her daughters Janet Tate Atallah (Wadie) of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Julie McCullough of Oliver Springs; grandchildren, Nicole Parrott Liner (Justin) of Calhoun, and Bela Parrott of Oliver Springs; siblings Gloria Oakes (Carl) of Andersonville, Linda Hopson (Cecil) of Payson, Ariz., and Darrell Reynolds of Knoxville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at Weatherford Mortuary. A memorial service will follow at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Kenny Rains officiating.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Methodist Medical Center CCU nurse Kate, special neighbors David and Sharon Chamblee, her church family, and Pastor Kenny Rains.

DELORES DIANNE DISNEY ADKINS

Delores Dianne Disney Adkins, 61, Caryville, passed away Aug. 25, 2017, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

She was born in Campbell County, May 21, 1956, to the late William E. Disney and Mary Lou Pyles Disney. Dianne was of the Baptist Faith. When she was able, Dianne enjoyed spending time camping, fishing, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandkids. Dianne was an employee of Git N Go Market for many years.

In addition to her parents, Dianne was preceded in death by her brother, Walter E. Disney.

Survivors: Husband, Danny Adkins of Caryville; daughters, Daphene Morris and Brian of Leland, N.C., Mary Speegle and Robby of Clinton; sons, Tony Adkins of Powell, Michael Adkins of Clinton; brothers, Hobert Disney of Jacksboro, Dale Disney and Janie of Knoxville, Aubrey “Peanut” Disney and Audrey of LaFollette, Steve Disney of Caryville; grandchildren, Cara, Amelia, and Elizabeth Morris, Cassandra, Krysta, and Conner Speegle; several nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Visitation was from 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City.

Funeral service was at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, in the Hatmaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Asbury officiating.

Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Lake City to go in procession to Windrock Cemetery in Oliver Springs for an 11 a.m. graveside service.
