JOHN HOBERT MARTIN

John Hobert Martin, better known as “Hobert,” 87, Clinton, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.

Hobert served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran, and served in Italy and 12 other countries. Hobert was a faithful Christian man and was a Sunday school teacher at Emanuel Baptist Church in Toledo, Ohio, for many years, and was a member of Second Baptist Church in Clinton. He worked at Champion Spark Plug Company in Toledo, Ohio, for 32 years. After retirement Hobert and his wife came to Clinton to spend valuable time with his family, and he loved gardening.

Hobert was preceded in death by: Parents, Al and Idellia Martin; brothers, Roscoe Martin, Clifford Martin, and Lawrence Martin; sisters, Flossie Hunley, and Lorene Abner.

Hobert is survived by: Wife of 58 years, Pauline Martin of Clinton; daughters, Tammy Carpenter and husband Terry of Jackson, Mich., and Tonya Wilson and husband Mike of Knoxville; the loving grandchildren of Hobert’s, Blake Wilson and wife Bethany of Knoxville, and Heather Wilson and fiancé Cody Jeffries both of Knoxville; one great-granddaughter, Norah Wilson; brother, Kenneth Martin and wife Cindi of Lake City; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Hobert’s family and friends gathered for a graveside service at 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2018, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton.

RAYMOND EDWARD LOVELY

Raymond Edward Lovely, 73, Lake City, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018.

Raymond was born Dec. 24, 1944, in Virginia to the late Dewey and Opal Lamb Lovely. Raymond was a veteran of the United States Navy. He enjoyed fishing, watching western movies, NASCAR racing, and playing cards.

In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by: Daughter, Kim Garrett Shaw; brothers, Marshall and Ronald Lovely; and sister, Shirley Carden.

Survivors: Daughters, Angel Seiber and Darrell of Clinton, Michele Velez and Tony of Lake City, Sheena Lovely of Clinton; brothers, Owen Lovely of Alabama, J.C. Lovely of Lenoir City, Donald Lovely of Clinton; sisters, Dolly Turner of Mississippi, Sue Barnes of Powell, Pat Hashbarger of Clinton, Virley Hancock of Loudon; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many special friends and family

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

CAPT. FRED LAY

Capt. Fred Lay, 86, Clinton, passed away suddenly Tuesday, March 27, 2018.

Fred was a long-time member of Bethel Baptist Church and was born Jan. 16, 1932, to the late Hesler and Viola Lay.

Fred was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served our country in the Korean Conflict. During his military service, he earned his bachelors of science and a masters of business administration. He retired from the United States Air Force as a Captain after 27 years of service. Following his military career, he served 20 years in The Civil Service in Oak Ridge.

He is survived by: Loving wife of 62 years, Joan M. Lay of Clinton; children, Fred Lay Jr. and wife Denise of Paoli, Penn., Stephanie Lyle and husband Robert of Raleigh, N.C.; grandson, Andrew Lay of Paoli, Penn.; sister, Elizabeth Wilson and husband Gene of Radcliff, Ky.; several nieces and nephews as well as many beloved friends.

The family received friends from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2018, at Bethel Baptist Church with funeral services following.

His graveside was at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2018. at Lay Cemetery in Pioneer with full military honors at graveside.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes will be appreciated.

GLORIA JEAN FRITTS

Gloria Jean Peyton Fritts, born Nov. 27, 1942, died March 27, 2018.

She leaves behind: Husband of 54 years, Tommy Fritts (raised in Beach Grove); children, Daniel J. Fritts, and Tarrie L. Fritts Hicks; grandchildren, Haley Hicks, Ivey Hicks, Christian Fritts, and Alexandra Fritts.

She was laid to rest at Mt. Comfort Cemetary, Pastor David Rhodenhizer officiating.

MICHAEL WARREN McMAHAN

Michael Warren McMahan (Mike), 53, Clinton, went home to be with the Lord March 23, 2018.

He loved working on cars and was known for his mechanic skills. He loved hunting, fishing, and driving a big rig. He was owner/operator of Clinton Auto Repair.

Mike was preceded in death by: Max Lilies, Dean Liles, James (Ted) McMahan, Steven Fox, and Michael Warren McMahan Jr.

ALENE OGLE

Alene Ogle, Clinton, went home to be with her Savior April 1, 2018, while surrounded by her family.

She was born April 27, 1923, in Hot Springs, N.C. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Clinton where she taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed writing poetry and listening to gospel music. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be missed by her family and friends.

Alene was preceded in death by: Husband, of 64 years Norman Ogle; parents; and three sisters.

She is survived by: Children, Terry Ogle and wife Brenda, Anne Davis, Shirley Cook and husband Sherrill, Larry Ogle and wife JoAnn, and Kathy Shoopman and husband Wimp; grandchildren, Scott Ellis, Kristi Stewart, Dana Lemak and husband John, Robin Watson and husband Jeff, Kelli Shoopman, and Amanda Patterson and husband Matt; great-grandchildren, Channing Miller and husband Gabe, Morgan Watson, Blake Stewart, Andrew Shoopman, Elizabeth, Emily and Trey Lemak.

JOSEPH ‘ADAM’ ELKINS

Joseph “Adam” Elkins, 44,
Alma, Ark., formerly
of Andersonville, passed away Sunday, March
18.

He was born July 13, 1973, in Rockledge, Fla., to Joseph
and Linda Elkins. He was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church
of Andersonville. He attended
Walter State University, where
he received an associate’s
degree. He spent most of
his professional career in law
enforcement at The University
of Tennessee, City of Norris,
Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, and City of Forest Park, Ga. He became a federal agent for Department of Energy’s NNSA, Office of Secure Transportation, where he was a training specialist. His ambitious nature led him to pursue many business ventures. He was owner and operator of Elkins Trucking, Elkins Sporting Goods, and AKA Cycles, including a motorcycle restoration show. Most recently, his passion for bass fishing motivated him to open Limit Fishing Products. Adam developed many friendships throughout the years, and will be dearly missed by many.

He was preceded in death by: Son, Austin “Race” Elkins; and grandparents, Wilber and Evelynn Elkins, and The Rev. Clyde and Rosella Helton.

Adam is survived by: Loving wife, Stacy; son, Joseph “Anden” Elkins; and step-son, Jackson Mitchell of Alma, Ark.; loving daughter, Marieve Elkins; and former wife Mary, both of Powell; loving parents, Joseph and Linda Elkins of Andersonville; loving brother, Quentin Elkins and wife Shirley, and nephew Shane; special uncle, Allen Helton; in-laws, Tammi and Tony Tidwell; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Since Adam lived his life full throttle, a Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Andersonville. The Rev. Steve Lakin and Quentin Elkins will be officiating.

Interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2018, at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville.

DeMYAH LeANN OXENDINE

DeMyah LeAnn Oxendine, four months, beloved daughter of Savannah Grace Justice and Anthony Rashad Oxendine, passed away in the comfort of her home March 27, 2018.

She was born Nov. 21, 2017, in Knoxville at Fort Sanders Medical Hospital. During her short life, she touched many lives. She was, and still is, loved by many.

DeMyah joins her great-grandparents, Linda Justice and Darlene Clement; great-great-grandparents, Dean and Agnes Justice, Velma Jo Carter, Etta Patterson, and Rockie and Stacy Oxendine; uncle, Tony Darrisaw; great-uncle, Jerry Justice; great-aunts, Peggy Justice Gibson and Melissa Oxendine in Heaven.
