ELIZABETH HOPE HENDRIX ASLINGER

Elizabeth Hope Hendrix Aslinger, 81, of the Batley community in Anderson County, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020.

Preceded in death by: Parents, Curtis Allen Hendrix and Thelma Lee “Linda” Haney Hendrix; son, Brian Aslinger; sisters, Faye Childs (Lawrence), Tina Lindsay (George), Hazel Smith (Carroll), Shollie Cabral (Bob); and brother, Bruce Hendrix (Nena).

Survived by: Husband of 63 years, Kenneth Aslinger; sons, Dennis Aslinger (Jane Ann), Marty Aslinger (Missy); sister, Connie Phillips (Junior); brother, Bill Hendrix (Connie); grandchildren, Justin Aslinger (Wendy), Marc Aslinger (Jessica), Kacy Aslinger Schnake (Stefan), Emilie Aslinger Wise (Michael), Brittany Aslinger, Holly Aslinger (Nicholas Watts); great-grandson, Able Fowler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hope was a 50-plus year member of Batley Baptist Church where she enjoyed fellowship and singing in the choir.

A visitation was held from noon-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020, at Batley Baptist Church, 607 Batley Rd., in the Marlow Community.

A graveside service in the church cemetery immediately followed.

JAMES ‘JIM’ ELLIOTT MOORE

James “Jim” Elliott Moore, 77, Clinton, passed away at his home Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020.

Jim was born in Knoxville, attended East High School, played college football at Tennessee Tech and acquired his master’s degree in mathematics at the University of South Carolina.

He married his high school sweetheart, Marlene Kay Bagwell.

Jim was a smart, funny, driven man. He and his wife, Marlene, were long-time members of the United Memorial Methodist Church in Clinton.

He was an avid Tennessee football fan and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and mentoring young people as a teacher, coach and youth counselor.

Jim was preceded in death by: Parents, Harry and Elise Dickson Moore; sisters, Betty Jo Hartley and Patsy Ruth Dennis; brother, Harry Moore.

Survived by: Wife, Marlene Bagwell Moore; children, Richard Moore, wife Mary Helen of Knoxville, Melissa Moore Warshaw husband Jay of North carolina; grandchildren, Steven Warshaw, Caroline Warshaw, Andrew Warshaw, Joseph Moore and Ashley Kate Moore; brother, David Moore, wife Linda of Clinton; several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

The family received friends from 1–3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, at Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral following in the chapel.

Graveside service was held at Grandview Memorial Garden.

ROBERT STONE

Robert Stone passed away in the early morning hours of Aug. 3, 2020, in Augusta, Ga., at the Charlie Norwood VA Hospital with family by his side.

Bob was born Nov. 17, 1937, to Park Stone and Ada Howell in the township of Cheoah, N.C. — modern day Robbinsville. He served in the Navy Seabees in Kodiak, Alaska, and San Diego from 1956 to 1958. He moved to Clinton after his father passed in 1958 to be with his mother. There he met Sheila Hankins and the two were married in 1963. He was a strong Christian who loved God and this country. He loved his family and passing on stories of those who had already passed. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and motorcycles, and had a deep love for trains — specifically steam engines. He worked as a body shop foreman, retiring from Krebs Chevrolet. He was well known for his sense of humor and is greatly missed by his loved ones.

He was preceded in death by: Parents; sister, Doris Higdon of Knoxville; and nephew, Rob Tokes of Clinton, Ohio.

He leaves behind: Wife of 57 years, Sheila Stone; daughter, Ginger Stone of Oak Ridge; son, Robert Stone and wife Rhonda of Knoxville; granddaughters, Taryn Torbett and husband Chris of Knoxville, Taylor Lay of Oak Ridge, and Trista Lay of Oak Ridge; sisters, Virginia “Pat” Tokes of Clinton, and Genevieve “Whis” Harber of Clinton; three nieces and five nephews; and a host of additional and extended family members that Bob deeply cared for.

Robert chose to be cremated and will have a graveside service at 2 p.m. Aug. 16, 2020, at Sunset Cemetery with full military honors.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

BETTY LOU BRITTLE

Betty Lou Brittle, 84, Clinton, went to meet her Heavenly Father on Aug. 2, 2020.

She was a member of North Clinton Baptist Church. Betty was a loving wife, mother, and sister.

She was preceded in death by: Husband, Harry Brittle; mother, Nancy Allen; and father, Joe Ainscough.

She is survived by: Sons, James and Michael Brittle; and siblings, Clayton Ainscough, Nancy Allen, Patsy Allen, Linda Allen, and Jeanette Patterson (Tommy).

Funeral will be private as per her wishes.

WILLIAM ROSCOE WELLS SR.

William Roscoe Wells Sr., 76, passed away Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020.

He was born April 15, 1944, in Harlan, Ky., to the late Roscoe and Goldie (Gibson) Wells. William served in the United States Army, where he was a cook. He was a retired truck driver with Food Lion. William loved reading his Bible, motorcycles, going fishing on his houseboat, telling stories, and animals.

He is survived by: Daughter, Tonya (Max) Spires; son, William R. Wells Jr.; seven grandchildren, Joseph Baswell, Ashley Smith, Briana Wells, Carla Wells, Courtney Wells, Josh Wells and Taleigha Pearson; four great-great grandchildren, Ashton, Hunter, Emery and Jameson; two sisters, Jeri “Dean” Wells, and Zelma June Wells.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by: The mother of his children, Wanda Moore; two sisters, Mary Joyce Wells Leinart and Wilma Lynn Creech Wells; two brothers, Robert Haskell Wells and Fred L. Wells.

William requested that his body be donated to The University of Cincinnati for medical research.

DEWEY LEE DISON

Dewey Lee Dison, 66, Clinton, passed away Aug. 1, 2020.

He was a member of Frost Bottom Baptist Church and was a Mason with Coal Creek Lodge 492 in Rocky Top.

Dewey loved being outdoors and spent a lot of his free time fishing, racoon hunting and ginseng hunting.

He was preceded in death by: Parents, Loas and Dorothy Dison; brothers, Chester Dison and Loas Dison Jr.; and sisters, Ruby Smith, and Pam Braden.

He is survived by and will be greatly missed by: Daughters, Bethany Richards (Marcus), and Kayla Livingston (Owen); brothers, Lonnie Dison (Pat), and Larry Dison (Teddi); sisters, Brenda Waters (Keith), Debbie Dison, and Lisa Erickson (Bret); granddaughter, Arya Livingston; and several extended family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Coal Creek Lodge 492 (103 Pearl St., Rocky Top, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020.

SANDRA LYNN GOLDBERG (GOLDMOON)

Sandra Lynn Goldberg (Goldmoon) was born Dec. 23, 1955, in Oak Ridge and passed peacefully and surrounded with love July 29, 2020.

A graduate of Oak Ridge High School (1973), Sandi had a passion for gardening, the environment, and animals. She could often be found bird watching. The memory of her will continue on for generations as all who know her spread the love, kindness and compassion she had to others.

Preceded in death by: Parents, Gerald Goldberg and Dorothy Purnell Goldberg; sister, Donna Gail Goldberg; and infant brother, Jerry Purnell.

She is survived by: Sons, Joseph Goldberg (Dana) of California, and Michael Wallace of Oak Ridge; daughter in heart, Ceaira Burkett (Zak); sister, Pam Goldberg Lane (Sid) Clinton; brother, Larry Gustison (Jan) of Boston, Mass.; beloved grandsons, Wyatt and Jamison Goldberg; nephews, Todd and Ben Panter of Clinton, Robert and Rory Gustison; niece, Rebecca Gustison of Massachusetts; aunt, Polly Anderson Purnell of Knoxville; uncle, Johnny Purnell (Connie) of Oak Ridge; very special friends, Glenda Rigdon Glenn and Sandy Glazier; special friends, “a slew of cuzs” and her close friends, the “PBM Sisters” RUMSPRINGAH!!!!!

FRANK LEON LAYTON

Frank Leon Layton passed away July 28, 2020, at the age of 90.

He was a long-time resident of Clinton before moving to Asbury Place in Maryville.

Frank was born to Frank and Leona Layton of Cartersville, Ga., Oct. 10, 1929.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by: Sister, Minerva Layton; and a number of very special aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was married Sept. 2, 1956, to Ruth Ann Shinall Layton. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage.

He is survived by: Beloved wife, Ruth; along with his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Alan Cummings of Walland; and daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Jack Walker of Farragut; along with a dear first cousin, Carol Davis of Auburn, Ala.

He was a long-time member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Clinton and will be fondly remembered by his church family there.

Frank had a good, long and happy life, but will be missed by his family who loved him very much and will forever be grateful for his love, guidance and care.

Due to current circumstances, the family chose to have a call-at-your- convenience at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home from noon–4:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020.

Family and friends met at 9:45 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2020, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens for a graveside service at 10 a.m.
