Lady mavs track takes second at Farragut meet

The Anderson County Track and Field teams competed at Farragut High School on Tuesday, April 11 in a 10-team meet.

The Lady Mavs finished second overall behind Maryville high school and the Mavs team ended up in fifth place.

Sophomore Brittany Bishop finish first in all four of the events she competed in. She won the pole vault with a mark of 10’6”, the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 15.97 seconds, the 300 hurdles in 50.55 seconds and along with teammates Mackensi Crumley, Mollie Longmire, and Maddy Moody tacked on a first place finish in the 4x400 meter relay with a season’s best time of 4:25.34.

Sophomore Maddy Moody also won all the events she was entered in with the noted victory in the 4x400 plus wins in the 1600 meters (5:30.62) and 800 meters in a personal record time of 2:25.23.

Senior Brandi Duff was third in the pole vault with a mark of 8’.

Senior Sydney McCreary was fourth in both the 100 meter hurdles (18.05) and the 200 meter dash (29.05). She also added a fifth place finish in the triple jump (28’3.75”).

Sophomore Jessica Meredith finished fourth in the high jump (4’6”) and 6th in the triple jump (26’5.5”).

Sophomore Kaylee Castleberry tacked on a sixth place in the high jump (4’2”).

Freshman Mackensi Crumley added a fifth in the long jump with a PR leap of 14’2” and a fifth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 54.15 seconds.

Fellow freshman Brookley Housley added a sixth place in the 300 meter hurdles (PR 54.37) and a seventh in the triple jump ( 24’4”).

The 4x200 meter relay team of Katie Woodward, Jessica Meredith, Megan Kiehl and Rillie Wax added a second place finish (2:02.77).

For the Mavs junior Parker Fulton had a big evening winning both the long jump (19’7”) and triple jump (38’ 5.25”) plus adding a sixth in 110 meter hurdles (18.22).

Senior Jonathon Hughes finished third in the 400 meters (52.19) and sixth in the 200 meters (24.45).

Fellow senior Gavin Sickau was fifth in the triple jump (35’9.5”), sixth in the long jump (18’1”) and sixth in the 100 meters (11.71).

Joseph Randolph finished seventh in the shotput with a PR heave of 38’ 9”.

Sophomore Grant Hayes added a seventh in the 800 meters with a PR time of 2:10.22.

In the relays, the 4x800 meter team (Parker Owens, Harrison Ogburn, Micah Sawyer, Grant Hayes,) finished second (9:17.27) and the 4x100 meter team (Jordan Braden, Parker Fulton, Parker Owens, Gavin Sickau) added a sixth (47.48).

The 51st Volunteer Track Classic was held at Tom Black Track at the University of Tennessee on Saturday, April 15th. Fifty six high schools representing Tennessee, North Carolina, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Virginia gathered for the competition. Anderson County High School sent a select group of athletes to the event and they did not disappoint with their performances.

Sophomore Brittany Bishop was named the Most Valuable Female Performer at the meet for her outstanding effort and victories in the 100 meter hurdles and the pole vault.

Bishop started the day winning the 100 meter hurdles in a personal record time of 15.46 seconds. Her time in the event is the second fastest ever recorded by a ACHS athlete placing her behind the school record holder and two time state champion in the event, Josie Hahn.

Within an hour after winning the hurdles, Bishop broke her own school record of 11 feet 6 inches in the pole vault with a vault of 12 feet to capture first place in the event. Her mark of 12 feet is currently the best in the state of Tennessee in all classifications.

Senior Brandi Duff also scored for the Lady Mavs in the pole vault, claiming fifth place with an effort of 8’ 6”.

Sophomore Maddy Moody finished sixth in the mile run with a personal record time of 5:25.77. Moody also finished just out of the scoring column in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:26.51 for a 10th place finish.

For the Mavs, Junior Parker Fulton finished fourth in the long jump with a personal record leap of 20’ 9” and sophomore Grant Hayes ran a PR of 42.47 seconds to claim seventh place in the 300 meter hurdles.

On Friday, April 21, the Mavs and Lady Mavs will host the 19th annual Dale Legg Invitational at Anderson County High School. Eighteen area high schools and over 500 athletes will be competing.
