Kingston 49

Oliver Springs 3

It was a long night for the Oliver Springs Bobcats as the visiting Kingston Yellow Jackets used a 35-point outburst in the second half and won 49-3.

The lone points for the Bobcats came on a 29-yard field goal by junior Zach Brooks.

Oliver Springs turned the ball over three times in the game and was limited to 80 yards of offense as the Kingston line wore them down in the second half.

Defensively, seniors Landen Everett and Dillon Walls, along with sophomore Lane Lee led the Bobcats with three solo and one assisted tackle each. Junior Levi Laymance had three solo tackles.

The Bobcats (0-2) will enjoy a bye this week and return on Sept. 8 to host Northview Academy.

Oak Ridge 25

Dobyns-Bennett 28

The road was unkind to the Oak Ridge Wildcats Friday night as they fell in Kingsport to Dobyns-Bennett by a score of 28-25.

Wildcats’ senior quarterback Johnny Stewart was 12-26 for 199 yards passing. He threw touchdown passes to junior Kai’Reese Pendergrass (25 yards) and senior Caleb Martin (11 yards).

He also had a 54-yard completion to junior Jeremy Mitchell to set a one-yard quarterback sneak for a touchdown.

Junior Jordan Graham had an 82-yard kick return that set up an 11-yard touchdown run by Pendergrass.

Oak Ridge had an opportunity late but an interception with 22 seconds remaining dashed their hopes of a comeback.

The Indians’ defense was tough on the Oak Ridge ground game. They limited the Wildcats to just 50 yards rushing. Graham was held to 11 yards on eight carries. Last year he torched Dobyns-Bennett for 224 yards on the ground.

Oak Ridge falls to 1-1 with a huge Region 3-5A showdown at Campbell County (2-0) on Friday.



Powell 42

Cumberland County 13

The Powell Panthers made the long trek to Cumberland County and came away with a 42-13 win.

Sophomore quarterback Walker Trusley went 17-22 for 302 yards with four touchdowns.

Junior receiver Chris Harvey had eight receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown while junior receiver Riley Bryant had two catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns.

Sophomore Eli Owens had two receptions for 30 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed three times for 89 yards and a touchdown.

Sophomore Bailor Walker scored on a 12-yard run.

Defensively, senior defensive lineman Bryson Reed led the Panthers with 10 tackles (three for loss and a quarterback sack). Senior Bryson Reed recorded 8.5 tackles.

Powell travels to Fulton on Friday for a key Region 3-5A battle.



Campbell County 37

David Crockett 35

The Campbell County Cougars won a shootout on the road with David Crockett by a score of 37-35.

Senior quarterback Zach Rutherford finished the game 25-37 for 296 yards and three touchdowns.

Senior Elijah Phillips had eight receptions for 128 yards and a touchdown while junior Preston Bowman had nine receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown.

Senior Christian England rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.

Phillips led the way defensively with 11 tackles.

Senior Gary Seibers recorded nine tackles with two for a loss. Juniors Drew Jordan and Eric Hopper each had six tackles with three for a loss.

Junior Logan Berry had an interception and a blocked field goal.

The Cougars (2-0) will host Region 3-5A rival Oak Ridge on Friday night.
