Clinton shut out by Knox Central

The Clinton Dragons traveled to Knox Central last Friday night and for the second week in a row, lost 17-0.

Neither team put up great offensive numbers in the game as it was an old fashioned ball-control, rushing duel.

The first quarter saw each team trade possessions and field position, a trend that carried over to the second quarter.

The Bobcats opened the second quarter with a 14-play, 80-yard drive, which took more than eight minutes off of the clock. The drive ended with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Trey Mitchell to Demetrien Johns.

Ian Cummins kicked the extra point to give Central the 7-0 lead with 5:18 remaining in the half.

Clinton was unable to put together a drive to answer and punted the ball away/turned it over on an interception.

The Bobcats took advantage of the late opportunity and kicked a 25-yard field goal as time expired in the half to take a 10-0 lead.

The third quarter resembled the first quarter as both teams were held scoreless and the game turned into a battle for field position.

The 10-0 score held until the late in the fourth quarter when Central put together an eight-play, 69-yard drive. Trey’sean Moore scored on a three-yard run and Cummins kicked the extra point to make it a 17-0 game with 26 seconds left in the game.

The Dragons were unable to add a late score.

Moore was the key for the Bobcats as he rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown in 20 carries.

Mitchell was 4-5 passing but was held to just 22 yards passing with the 14-yard touchdown pass accounting for the bulk of his passing yards.

For the Dragons, Ro Hardin rushed for 41 yards on 10 carries. Hardin also led Clinton with four receptions for 31 yards.

Cameron Washington added 30 yards on four carries.

Once again, the Dragons utilized three quarterbacks as Luke Harrison was 5-11 for 16 yards, Jacob Brock was 4-10 for 44 yards, and Jatcee Newton was 1-1 for 30 yards.

Defensively, Trevon Hill led Clinton wit 12 total tackles, including two and a half for a loss and a forced fumble.

Jackson Leinart and Jayven Booker each recorded 11 total tackles while Isaiah Washington had six total tackles and Luke Johnson had five total tackles.

The Dragons fall to 2-3 overall, 0-2 in Region 3-5A.

They visit Knoxville West on Friday for another region game.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
