Lady Wildcats take district title

The Oak Ridge Lady Wildcat Volleyball team swept Bearden in straight sets on Tuesday to earn the AAA District 4 Tournament Championship.

“I’m so proud to be the coach of this group,” stated Head Coach David Kolodney. “To win back to back Championships is a great accomplishment and they absolutely deserve it.”

Oak Ridge competed in District 3-3A last year and met some new competition as part of their transition to a realigned District 4 in 2017.

“When we first started our season back in July, they told me that this year is the year to go to State,” continued Kolodney. “Well, we’ve accomplished the first two steps — winning the regular season and now the postseason in the District. But there’s still work to be done so we get to enjoy this for a couple days and then back in the gym to prepare for Regions.”

The Lady 'Cats faced Heritage (second Place District 3) in Oak Ridge on Tuesday for the Regional match.

Heritage and Oak Ridge have faced off twice in the past month, with each team notching one victory.

The winner will face a Region 1 opponent in Sub-State to determine who advances to the State Tournament.

Prior to facing Bearden in the District Championship last Tuesday, the Lady 'Cats disposed of Halls in straight sets in the Semi-Final match. Oak Ridge had earned a first round bye by finishing in first place during the regular season. Oak Ridge’s Olivia Milloway earned Tournament MVP, and Emily Lawless and Reagan Dickens were selected for the All-Tournament Team.
