Knox Catholic 59

The Fighting Irish of Knoxville Catholic eliminated Campbell County from the playoffs last Friday night by a score of 59-21.

Cougars' quarterback Zach Rutherford went 43-54 for 304 yards and three touchdowns.

Shawn Marcum led Campbell County with 13 receptions for 114 yards and two touchdowns while Justin Nelson had 11 catches for 73 yards.

Defensively, Bryce Trentham led the Cougars with nine tackles, including one for a loss.

Gary Seibers had seven tackles and one sack while Elijah Phillips had five tackles, a sack, and a fumble recovery.

Campbell County ends their season with a 7-4 record.



Soddy Daisy 7

Oak Ridge 32

The Oak Ridge Wildcats advanced to the second round of the Class 5A playoffs with a 32-7 win over visiting Soddy Daisy last Friday.

After a scoreless first quarter on a very wet Blankenship Field, the Wildcats’ Jack Replogle intercepted a Trojans’ pass to set up Oak Ridge in the red zone. Jordan Graham scored on a 17-yard run on the very next play. Carson McGhee added the extra point to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead.

Just before halftime, McGhee nailed a 41-yard field goal to give Oak Ridge a 10-0 halftime lead.

Early in the third quarter, Adarius Simpson scored but the extra point attempt failed. The Wildcats led 16-0.

Soddy Daisy answered with a touchdown and extra point to make it a 16-7 game.

Later in the third quarter, Johnny Stewart threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Jaycen McGhee. Carson McGhee’s PAT made it 23-7.

In the fourth quarter, Carson McGhee booted a 39-yard field goal to make it a 26-7 Oak Ridge lead.

The Wildcats’ Carter Alexander wrapped up in scoring in a big way as he scored on a 90-yard run to make the final 32-7.

Oak Ridge will host Knoxville West on Friday after the Rebels beat Rhea County 15-13 in Evensville last week.

The Wildcats topped West 23-13 on Sept. 15 at Blakenship Field.

Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.



Oliver Springs 42

Jellico 8

The Oliver Springs Bobcats won their first round playoff game last Friday by downing Jellico 42-8.

The Blue Devils had no answer to Mason Hill who scored twice on runs in the first quarter, twice on runs in the second quarter, and once on a pass from Blake Crass.

Zach Brooks kicked all five extra points to give the Bobcats a 35-0 lead at the half.

Neither team scored in the third quarter but Jellico got a touchdown and a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter.

Matt McGhee scored on a run and Brooks added the extra point make the final 42-8.

Hill finished with 92 yards and four touchdowns on 11 carries.

Landen Everett had 60 yards on seven carries and Crawford had 47 yards on five carries.

Crass finished 5-8 for 71 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Hill led Oliver Springs with nine tackles and a fumble recovery (with a 50-yard return) while Bailey Russell and Lane Lee each had eight tackles.

The Bobcats advance to face Greenback on the road Friday at 7 p.m.
