Clinton Sharks finish strong

The Clinton Sharks swim team made a tremendous showing at the Greater Knoxville Area Interclub Swimming Association Summer League Championship on Saturday at the University of Tennessee Aquatics Center.

“For a small team, we placed well,” said Ezekiel Rich, head coach of the team.

Individually, several swimmers stood out for the Sharks.

They include:

• Colby Brown, 17, 14th place and 13th place in the 50 Meter and 100 Meter Freestyle events respectively

• Savannah Miniard, 12, third place in the 50 Meter Freestyle, eight place in the 100 Meter Individual Medley, sixth place in the 50 Meter Butterfly, and fourth place in the 200 Meter Freestyle Relay

• Carl Helus, 12, third place in the 50 Meter Freestyle, fifth place in the 100 Meter Individual Medley, fourth place in the 50 Meter Backstroke and fourth place in the 200 Meter Freestyle Relay

• Ella Hill, 11, fourth place in the 200 Meter Freestyle Relay

• Sarah Helus, 10, sixth place in the 25 Meter Butterfly, eighth place in the 25 Meter Backstroke, and fifth place in the 100 Meter Individual Medley

• Ethan Brown, 12, ninth place in the 50 Meter Freestyle and fourth place in the 200 Meter Freestyle Relay

• Benjamin Helus, 8, 15th in the 100 Meter Individual Medley and 12th in the 25 Meter Backstroke

Saturday’s meet wrapped up the season for the Sharks who saw improvement under Rich, who is in his second season leading the program. The Sharks finished with a 3-1 record this season after failing to win a meet last season.

“This year, every swimmer improved their times tremendously,” he said.

The team will start practice for next season in September, The new season will begin next June.

Rich will go back to work even sooner thanks to his role as the coach of the Clinton City School Blaze swim team.

The Blaze will start practice on Aug. 14.

Rich said he hopes to have their first meet in late September.
