High school golf season in full swing

The golf teams at both Anderson County High School and Clinton High School have both enjoyed success in the early season.

The Mavericks have picked up wins over Campbell County, Clinton, Gibbs, Union County, and Powell. Their only loss to date has been to Halls.

In the win over Union County, Ethan Comer led the team with a 38 while Ian Neff shot a 39. Brandon Jordan finished with a 40, Walker St. Peter 41, and Brock Rogers 42.

In the win over Powell, Neff led the team with a 38 while Rogers shot a 41.

Jordan led Anderson County with a score of 39 in the win over Campbell County.

For the Lady Mavs, Jordan Comer and Taylor Irwin are performing well in the early going.

Seth Treece continues to lead the CHS boys’ team.

“I am expecting big things from him during his senior year.  He is hard on himself, but that is what makes him continue to improve and work toward his personal goals,” said Matt Cain, Clinton Golf Coach.

Treece shot an 80 during the Oak Ridge Invitational.

The boys team hopes to continue to improve with the help of seniors Caleb Williford and Logan Greene, junior Trace Duncan, and sophomore Dallas Cole.

The Lady Dragons are enjoying some success as well.

Multi-sport athlete Sophie Seivers has led the Dragons to impressive showings at multiple tournaments. She finished near the top at the Oak Ridge Invitational shooting an impressive 81.

“This is her first year playing competitive golf and she is already making a name for herself as one of the top female golfers in the district. The girls’ team is also thankful to have freshman Riley Scarbrough. Riley won both the district and regional middle school tournaments. Riley knows how to win and completes our girls team with great course management and skill,” Cain said.
