205 Main listed as ‘surplus’ property

The county’s ownership of 205 Main may be coming to an end.

Or maybe not.

County Commission approved a measure putting the property — bought with the purpose of locating the Anderson County Senior Center there — on the surplus property roll.

The measure does not mean the county will sell it — but it does give an option (legally) to do so.

“Next month we could take it off surplus,” Commissioner Jerry Creasey said.

“As it is we can’t find out if anyone is even interested (in the property).”

The move allows the county some freedom to have the property looked at — though any decision from the county to sell or keep will wait until after an appraisal is turned in.

County Mayor Terry Frank said an appraisal is expected to be completed by the end of August.

“We need to know the cost to keep it. The cost to sell it,” Comissioner Steve Emert said. “If we’re not going to use it a senior center, we don’t need it.”

Anderson County Commission Chairman Tim Isbel hinted that another site for a senior center may be in the future with very little cost to the county.
