Myers pleads guilty to second-degree murder

Pleas also entered for aggravated kidnapping, attempted murder

Robert “Robbie” Myers, 33, Airbase Road, Briceville pled guilty Monday to the second degree murder of Marshall Pinsley and the attempted second degree murder and kidnapping of Brandy Moneymaker.

Myers was sentenced to 15 years and 12 years to run back to back for an effective 27 years to serve without the possibility of parole.

The plea of guilty was received in the Criminal Court in Clinton.

Brandy Moneymaker and the family of Marshall Pinsley were present in the courtroom for the plea and were supportive of the agreement.

A representative of the family of Marshall Pinsley made a statement to the court regarding the impact of his murder.

Deputy District Attorney Tony Craighead announced to the court the plea agreement and the factors that supported the plea.

Myers acknowledged in court his guilt in the second-degree murder of Pinsley which happened in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart in Clinton on April 28, 2017.

Pinsley was married to Myers’ ex-wife and the two had an ongoing disagreement. On the date of Pinsley’s death there was a chance encounter between the two on a nearby roadway near the Clinton Wal-Mart.

Pinsley followed Myers’ vehicle into the Wal-Mart parking lot where Pinsley got out of his car and approached the driver’s door of Myers’ vehicle.

Court records show Myers shot Pinsley with a handgun as Pinsley approached the driver’s door. Myers received a 15-year sentence for second degree murder.

Myers’ was also convicted of the attempted second degree murder and kidnapping of Brandy Moneymaker which occurred on Feb. 8, 2017, near Briceville in Anderson County.

Myers also acknowledged his role and guilt in these crimes. Myers drove Moneymaker to a remote area and forced her out of the car.

Moneymaker was severely beaten and then Myers shot at her. Myers mistakenly thought he had fatally struck Moneymaker with a bullet when he had actually missed.

Moneymaker made her way on foot to an area residence and called for help.

Myers received the maximum sentence for aggravated kidnapping and attempted second-degree murder.
