Anderson County 4-H’ers excel in regional poultry judging contest


Anderson County 4-H’ers brought home 1st place honors in both the Junior and Senior High Divisions of the Regional 4-H Poultry Judging Contest, held during the TVA Fair. — Submitted
Thirteen Anderson County 4-H’ers competed in the Invitational 4-H Poultry Judging Contest during the TVA Fair.

Members competed with nearly 60 4-H’ers from counties in East Tennessee and demonstrated their knowledge of judging live hens, identifying retail cuts of chicken, and grading eggs and dressed chicken.

Most of the members began their poultry experience through the annual 4-H Chick Chain.

Anderson County members took home many honors including:

1st Place Junior Team:

• JoJo Hunley

• Emma Harper

• Scarlett King

1st Place Senior Team:

• Bonnie Chandler

• Nicholas Monday

• Avery Chandler

In addition to team honors, the following youth earned top ten honors in their grade division:

• 1st – JoJo Hunley

• 2nd – Bonnie Chandler

• 3rd – Nicholas Monday

• 4th – Emma Harper

• 5th – Avery Chandler

• 6th – Lily Meyers

• 7th – Jayden Smith

• 10th – Carter Melton

The Senior High team will compete in state competition on October 13 at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, with the top team advancing to national competition.
