Last Tuesday, the Clinton High School Dragons and Lady Dragons left Coalfield High School with big road wins.

The Lady Dragons got the night started. Senior Danyel Joy went six-of-eight from the charity stripe in the second half, and finished the game with a team-high 14 points.

Nikki Jones was Clinton’s biggest threat from downtown, knocked down two deep balls, and finished just behind Joy with 13 points. The Lady Dragons would get back on track, and defeat Coalfield 53-37.

The Dragons would face the Yellow Jackets next, and were much more athletic than their hosts. Through their inside-out offense, they would dominate Coalfield. Big man Demarcus McKamey went five-of-six from the floor, and four-of-six from the stripe to lead the Dragons in scoring with 14 points.

Point Guard Evan Winchester went five-of-nine from the floor and two-of-two from the foul line, and finished with 13 points. The Dragons simply were bigger, better, faster, and stronger.

Clinton took a 51-18 lead into halftime, and would cruise to a 79-36 victory. Clinton shot 52.6 percent from the floor, tallied 26 transition points, had 16 second chance points, and 15 points off turnovers.

Clinton won the physical battle, scoring 42 points in the paint compared to Coalfield’s 16.

The Dragons also won the battle of the boards, and turned the ball over 11 less times than the Yellow Jackets.

The Dragons and Lady Dragons faced off against District foe Karns this past Tuesday.

However, the results for that matchup were not available by press time. Clinton will move on to face off against crosstown rival Anderson County on Friday. Tip for the ladies’ matchup is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the boys will follow.
