Doesn’t understand how this could happen
EDITOR:
I have been following the story of Rep. David Byrd, a member of the TN House of Representatives. He has been accused of sexual misconduct involving students when he was their coach.
I don’t understand why House Speaker Glen Casada has appointed Rep. Byrd to chair an Education Sub-committee. This action seems particularly tone deaf and insensitive to the situation. I agree that Rep. Byrd is “innocent until proven guilty” as Speaker Casada pointed out recently, but doesn’t that mean that the Speaker should be supporting a full investigation of these accusations?
At the very least, Rep. Byrd should not chair a committee, and certainly not an education committee!
I urge those readers who agree with me to contact Speaker Casada about this issue. I will be sending him this letter.
