But it’s null and void

After more than two hours of “politicking” and “posturing,” Anderson County Commission, in a special called meeting, passed the 2019 – 2020 budget last Thursday night — a budget that includes an 18.25-cents property tax increase.

And all for nothing.

After a June 6 Budget Committee meeting then Finance Director Natalie Erb and Assistant Finance Director Robby Holbrook worked the following weekend updating changes requested by the Budget Committee.

That included replacing 10.54-cents in the county’s debt service fund — moved from the 2018-2019 budget into capital projects.

That 10.54-cents was put back in the county’s part of the budget for 2019-2020.

But it wasn’t put back in the resolution dealing with debt loads in Clinton and Oak Ridge. That affected the wording of the budget resolution and the calculations used during budget proceedings.

What happens next has been the big question since the error came to light last Friday, the day after the budget passed full commission.

The Commission could bring the matter before a special called meeting on July 11, or wait until its regular meeting on July 15.
