For the Clinton Lady Dragons, unfortunately, the Oak Ridge game Friday night was one-sided from the start, with Oak Ridge taking an early lead on the girls.

Before the first quarter was over, the score was already 16-6 against Clinton and the margin only grew.

Oak Ridge was just a bit better than the Lady Dragons in most every part of the court except personal fouls and offensive rebounds, with the Lady Dragons dominating on offensive rebounds and finishing the game with a single foul less than the Lady Wildcats.

In that same vein, the Lady Wildcats finished with an effective field goal percentage of 51-percent to Clinton’s 21-percent, and throughout the entire game, the Lady Dragons only made a single three-point basket.

The Lady Dragons also had to turn the ball over more than20 times, resulting in 19 points for Oak Ridge.

The top scorer for the night was Jaz Moore, who came away with 11 points.

Tied for second place were Sarah Burton and Naiyah Sanders, with nine points each.

The Lady Dragons stepped up against a historically strong opponent and, even though they lost, they will be able to use the game as a strong learning experience. It’s never fun losing, but one can always learn something from it.

The Lady Dragons traveled to Powell High School on Wednesday for their own makeup game against the Panthers.

Clinton’s girls lost that one 67-37.
