When you are on your own, we are there with you

Our country is facing a public health crisis — the largest we have seen in our lifetime.

Health officials have laid out the guidelines for getting through this: Wash your hands, keep your distance from others (especially those who are ill), don’t touch your face, cough into the crook of your arm, stay home if at all possible.

These are extraordinary times and our government leaders are exploring all options, gathering all information available, to keep us all safe.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee said our state will see this through, and we will see it through together, as only we can.

“We are Tennesseans,” he said. “We see great challenges ahead of us and there is no one better than Tennesseans to address them. It is a tremendous challenge, but we will get through it.”

The face of this pandemic changes daily, the challenges in front of us are ever-shifting, and new ones come to light as more knowledge is gained.

But know this, you are not alone. We are there with you.

We’ve faced extraordinary times before. This newspaper has been a part of Anderson County for 133 years. We have shared stories of blessings and love and joy.

And loss.

We have faced world wars, acts of terrorism that profoundly altered our lives, financial hardships that tested our resolve, and social discontent that threatened the fabric of our communities.

We have traveled the road of uncertainty before — together.

Always together.

And we will continue to do so.

This latest challenge is like no other, and we’ll be there with you.

We will help you make sense of this uncharted territory, to pass on information as we receive it without putting a political or social spin on it.

We will continue to tell the stories of those who are making a difference in all of our lives.

“COVID-19 has created an unprecedented health and economic crisis in our state and we need every Tennessean on board to beat this pandemic. Success starts with swift, accurate information and we support the efforts of the press to keep every Tennessean informed,” Gov. Lee said.

You may feel alone, but you’re not. We are there with you. Because we are all Tennesseans.
