Vols Diner gives thanks at Easter
Rocky Top eatery hands out 220 free meals on Sunday
A local business, the Vols Diner in Rocky Top, gave away free meals for Easter at its location on Main Street.
The restaurant boxed up the meals for patrons, asking them to stay in their cars for service, and sent out 220 total to-go boxes before running out of food.
Kim Kennedy, owner of the Vols Diner, talked about her reasons for giving away such a large amount of food.
“Most of our business comes from the locals in our community, and we just wanted to give to our little town,” said Kennedy.
“They’ve shown us so much support. We knew people weren’t working and don’t have much money right now, so that’s why we didn’t ask for food donations like we usually do for Thanksgiving.
“We were really disappointed that we ran out of food and couldn’t serve more, but we were able to send out 220 to-go boxes, and we’re very grateful for that.
“We love our small town, and we want to see it grow.”
