The Clinton Blaze and Lady Blaze basketball teams opened their season Thursday night against Grace Christian Academy and earned a split.

The boys nabbed a 42-16 win, while the girls lost 50-1.

In the boys’ game, Drayton Wade and Isaiah Williams each scored eight points, while Grant Hannah had seven.

For the Lady Blaze, Callie Johnson scored.

Coach Christin Webb said that despite the season-opening loss, she remains excited about the season. She blamed illness and lack of practice time for last week’s performance.

The Blaze and Lady Blaze played Powell Monday night at the Clinton Community Center, but results were unavailable at press time.

The teams return to action Thursday at home against Norwood Middle. Action begins at 6 p.m.

Clinton City Schools Athletic Director E.T. Stamey announced the attendance regulations that will continue for the home games this season:

Tickets will be limited to two per player. Temperature checks will be performed upon entry. Face masks are required.

Everyone must wear face coverings unless they are in an on-court, in-game situation.

Social-distancing protocols must be followed in seating. Game balls will be cleaned following each quarter.

Standing-room-only attendance will be allowed at each game. Concessions will not be available.

Both teams must provide rosters to prove who will be in uniform on each night. No locker room use is allowed, and entrance will be at the front door only.
