Writer says some fact checking was needed

EDITOR:

In response to Samuel Foust’s letter, it might have been incumbent upon him to do some fact checking before declaring Democrats need a reality check.

Yes, the price of gasoline is rising, but the blame cannot be laid at Biden’s feet. The rise in price can largely be attributed to the facts that OPEC has made a decision to limit oil production while the demand for gas is going up with the relaxation of COVID restrictions. A simple law of economics is that if demand is greater than supply, prices rise.

The rise in food prices is nothing new. It has been going on since 2000, and the rate of increase has been accelerated by the pandemic which greatly impacted production and distribution. Biden cannot be blamed for either a 20-year trend or the pandemic.

Biden’s tax increase will not impact 95-percent of all Americans. It will raise the corporate tax rate, but still keep it lower than it was prior to Trump’s tax cuts. Hopefully, it will also close tax loopholes which enabled 55 of our largest corporations to pay no federal taxes at all in 2020. It will increase taxes on Americans earning more than $400,000 annually and those making more than one million annually in capital gains.

While we did enjoy economic vitality for the first three years of Trump’s administration, it is worth noting that he was not responsible for the economic growth.

Economic indicators such as GDP, job creation, and the employment rate show a steady rise beginning with the Obama presidency. While Trump does get credit for sustaining the pattern of growth, there was no dramatic jump in those indicators after he took office.

Biden’s energy policy is certainly not designed to make us energy dependent. It is designed to make us less dependent on fossil fuels, which are finite, and more dependent on renewable sources of energy.

The shift from nonrenewable to renewable sources of energy will generate thousands of jobs, unlike the Keystone XL pipeline which, upon completion, would have created only 50 permanent jobs. If we do not make a concerted effort to develop the tools of renewable energy, China will most certainly corner that market for generations to come.

There is absolutely no factual evidence that members of the Biden administration are standing at the border handing out ballots and money to human traffickers, drug smugglers, and MS-13 gang members.

Such an allegation is the stuff of conspiracy theories.

As far as snatching victory from the jaws of defeat, there was no jaw of defeat for Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

He won by more than 7,000,000 votes, and more than 60 lawsuits have found no factual evidence of any voter fraud. Perhaps, Mr. Foust, like many Republicans, was lulled into thinking Donald Trump was winning based on early returns from states like Pennsylvania.

Unless one knows which votes have been reported … which counties, absentee vote, early vote, same day vote, military vote … it is unwise to draw any conclusions until all the facts are in.

Finally, Mr. Foust accuses the Democrats of having a winning formula based on “absentee ballots and software from hell” when there is absolutely no factual evidence to support it. However, it is worth noting there is ample evidence of the Republican formula for winning … voter suppression and extreme gerrymandering.

Before advising Democrats it is time for a reality check, perhaps some good old fact checking should have been done.
