Lady Lakers start season with two wins vs OR squads

The Lake City Middle School Lady Lakers volleyball team hit the court running.

Or blocking, or digging, or spiking, or ... Whatever term you want to use for two varsity wins and a junior varsity win to open the 2021-2022 volleyball season last Tuesday.

“We wanted to hit the ground running for our season showcase and our girls did just that on Tuesday against Robertsville and Jefferson,” Lake City Volleyball Coach Ron Roskelly said.

The Lady Lakers beat Jefferson Middle 25-9 and 25-17 in two sets, then held off Robertsville for a twin win as well, taking 25-18 and 25-14 sets. “Coy Tomlinson and Dakotah Berlin served as captains and won the first coin toss. Roskelly said. The coin toss set the mood for the matches. “The support and energy of our home crowd really kept the momentum going,” he said. “All of our players showed marked improvement from the pre-season We have laid a lot of groundwork in our preseason and are looking forward to playing hard and showing up the rest of the season,” Roskelly said.
