ACHS, Clinton both take wins over Scott soccer team

Both Anderson County and Clinton High School scored big wins over district rival Scott High recently.

The Lady Dragons beat Scott for the first time since 2012 and only the third time in the last 17 meetings.

The district stunner shook up the district tournament seedings, moving the Lady Dragons into third place.

All three goals came in the first half, as Clinton loaded up defensively in the second half to preserve the win. Seniors Raegan Marsee, Autumn Hill, and Jade Guadarrama Ortiz spearheaded the defense.

Senior Malia Kim scored two goals and freshman Elly Leander added one.

Goalkeeper Sarah Burton recorded the shutout.

The Lady Mavericks defeated Scott 3-2 in the continuance of a heated rivalry.

Emma Leander scored two goals and fellow freshman Zoey Rose scored the other.

Allyssa Wetherington played a great game in goal, stopping several Highlander attempts to tie the game late.

The game winner came on a beautiful flick from Rose to Leander, who outran the Scott defense and finished it off.

Anderson County cruised to a win over Campbell County 8-2.

Emma Leander and Allyssa Wetherington each scored two goals.

Morgran Irwin,Victoria Laster, Anna Baker and Delaney Wade each scored one.

With Wetherington on the field in the second half, freshman Emily Martin filled in admirably in goal.

Anderson County is 4-2 in regular season play and Clinton is 5-4.
