Clinton, Anderson County cross-country teams race toward season end

The Clinton Dragons’ cross-country team raced in the Cherokee Invitational Saturday.

Sam Fulton of Gatlinburg-Pittman won the boys’ competition with a time of 17:12.00.

The top finishers for Clinton included:

Ethan Ortiz, junior, 20:30.00

William Swaggerty, senior, 21:51.00

Noah Ortiz, sophomore, 21:51.00

Seth Shrout, senior, 22:02.00

Andrew Pecynski, senior, 23:19.00

Michael Dueble, senior, 25:17.00

Tim Kumes, head coach of the Dragons, was not overly pleased with his team’s performance.

“Very sloppy race — times reflected this,” he said. “We will be working hard over the break to finish strong over these next few weeks.”

On the girls’ side, Megan Forstner of the Knoxville Ambassadors took first place with a time of 20:19.00.

Clinton will run at the Cherokee Farms Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 19. The region meet will be on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Victor Ashe Park in Knoxville.
