Records fall, big shots made, a ‘newbie’ on the court

Because you never know what’s going to happen at a Clinton Blaze game

  • Tucker Harmening can control the point for the Blaze, but he’s a ball hawkatheart—heseta school record with seven steals against St. Mary’s in the Blaze’s second game of the season, a win.

  • Blaze wing James David Meredith isn’t afraid to mix it up in the paint, but he’s a shooter — Meredith has knocked down three treys in two games (as of Nov. 7) for the Blaze.

  • The guy in the stripes is Alex Burton, and Monday night he officiated his first game when he toted the whistle as the Clinton Blaze hosted Tate (Knoxville).

  • That’s his father, Clinton Mayor Scott Burton, in the background in gray pullover. The mayor and the newbie ref took a minute for a picture at halftime of the boys’ game.

Several good things have happened with the Clinton Blaze basketball teams.

Although the Lady Blaze lost to St. Mary’s last week, the team had an outstanding effort.

Teagan Bunch continues to be impressive on the court, scoring seven points in the effort. Raelyn Britton notched four points.

The Blaze won against St. Mary’s, running their record to 2-0. James David Meredith was on fire with nine points. He’s knocked down three treys in two games for the Blaze.

Tucker Harmening set a Blaze record with seven steals in one game against St. Mary’s.

During Monday night’s game against Tate (Knoxville) JV, attention turned to a referee.

No, not because of questionable calls — everything was fine there.

Alex Burton, son of Clinton Mayor Scott Burton, made his officiating debut Monday at the Blaze game.

Also in attendance at Monday night’s game was Clinton High School Head Football Coach Darell Keith, showing support for future Dragon athletes.
