Hawks, Lady Hawks hit the long road

Clinton Middle’s Lady Hawks dug a hole for themselves in the first half against Heritage Middle last Thursday that proved too much to get out of.

The Lady Hawks had a stellar second half, but couldn’t overcome the first-half deficit, and lost 32-21.

Heritage hit three three-pointers in the second quarter to build a 20-9 halftime lead.

Kenzlee Hutchison, Lanee Carmichael, and Josie Moody led a scoring barrage for the Lady Hawks in the third quarter, and the Clinton defense found its footing as the Lady Hawks closed the gap.

However, the visitors were able to hold off the Lady Hawks’ rally with five freebies at the free throw line to keep the lead and the win.

Moody was the leading scorer for Clinton with nine points; Carmichael and Addie Gamble each scored six.

Sophie Carnes led the visitors with 10 points.

Cade Trowbridge and Braylen Hayden had big third quarters Thursday night against the Clinton Middle Hawks.

But the third quarter wasn’t enough of an answer for Heritage Middle’s first half output. The Hawks lost 53-29.

Heritage fed off the hot hand of Eli Williams (10 points in the first half) and made use of several steals off its press to build a 20-point first half lead.

The Hawks countered after the half but couldn’t carry the third-quarter momentum into the final stanza.

Trowbridge had a solid game, leading the Hawks in scoring with 10 points. Jaxon Williams scored seven, Hayden scored six, Elijah Sexton notched three points, and Isaiah Williiams scored two.

Jackson Caylor and Eli Williams both scored in double figures to lead the visitors — Caylor with 18 and Williams with 15.
