The May 3 Republican Primary in Anderson County is almost here with early voting beginning April 13.

The last day to register to vote is April 4.

While there is a Democratic primary also scheduled for May 3, no one chose to run.

In the Republican Primary, several incumbents are unopposed. They include: Circuit and Criminal Court Judge Ryan Spitzer, Juvenile Court Judge Brian Hunt, Chancellor Nichole Cantrell, Public Defender Ann Coria, County Mayor Terry Frank, Trustee Regina Copeland, Sheriff Russell Barker, County Clerk Jeff Cole, Register of Deeds Tim Shelton, District 1 School Board member Jo Williams, and District 2 School Board member Teresa Portwood.

Incumbent Circuit Court Clerk Rex Lynch faces a challenge in the Republican primary from Lewis Ridenour.

Road Superintendent Gary Long (incumbent) is up against challenger Brian Hutson.

For Anderson County General Session Judges: Division 1 Judge Don Layton (incumbent) is being challenged by Victoria Bowling, and Division II Judge Roger Miller is facing a primary challenge from Matt Tuck.

Candidates in the races for seats on the Anderson County Commission have to declare their party affiliation for the General Election. While some incumbents have chosen to run as “independents,” a number of County Commission seats will be up in the Republican Primary, May 3.

The District 1 candidates are Harold Edwards, Ray Hagan, Rodney Jennings, and Tyler Mayes.

District 2: Steve Day, Michael Foster, Kimberly Meredith, and Denise Palmer.

District 3: Charles Irwin, Lindsay Smith, and Shelly Vandagriff.

District 4: Tim Isbel (incumbent) and Amy Jones.

District 5: Robert McKamey and Jerry White are unopposed.

District 6: Steve Mead (incumbent) and Anthony Allen.

District 7: Sabra Beauchamp and Steven Poppick.

District 8: Myra Mansfield and Jake Martin.

Early voting will be April 13–28, and the last day to request an absentee ballot is April 26.

• Anderson Crossing Shopping Center, 3310 Andersonville Highway, Andersonville.
