Clinton’s Market Street was a busy scene last Saturday evening as people turned out to take advantage of August Market Night, sponsored by the Historic Downtown Clinton TN Merchants Association.

The street was blocked off for the event from 5 to 8 p.m. as vendors and food trucks lined up to serve a steady stream of visitors.

Downtown merchants stayed open late to accommodate the crowds, and most reported brisk business – on a night that saw some respite from the recent heat.

Donna Raines, owner of Burrville Antiques, said she was so busy taking care of customers that she really didn’t have time to go outside to see how many visitors there were, but she heard from others how popular the event apparently was.

Charity Helton, owner of the Dandelion Market, said she was impressed with the turnout, both on the street and in her store.

Jonathan Maness was on hand with his sound equipment providing music for the event.

More than 20 vendors were set up in tents all along the street, selling crafts, food items, and all kinds of other merchandise.

There was even a cooperating high cloud cover for much of the evening, keeping the sun at bay for the shoppers.

Even with the mild evening, the Kona Ice truck was doing a brisk business with its cool treats.

Other food vendors included TK’s Gourmet Food Wagon, Shirley’s Boy Country Cooking, and Mel-Dar’s Deluxe Pup Hut.

Kinsey Martin was among the merchandise vendors, offering pottery and leather goods.

Dawn’s Sunshine Designs featured a variety of handmade items, including decorative pillows, corn hole bags, and bucket hats.
