Mav runners complete double duty at Sanders Ferry Park

ACHS cross country start, and end season at Knox Co. course

The Anderson County High School cross country teams made their second trip of the season to Sanders Ferry Park last weekend.

The Mavericks and Lady Mavericks opened the 2022 campaign there in August and the teams look to make one more trip to the Midsate and the Sanders Ferry Park course at the state championships.

ACHS competed in the Saturday Night Lights race last week.

The Mavericks’ top two finishers in the boys race posted personal best times in Hendersonville Saturday.

Conner Chandler crossed the finish line in 17 minutes, 22 seconds, a personal record. Vance Laster finished with a mark of 17:52, the top time of his career. Ben Clotfelter finished in 19:04. Ryan Basford posted a time of 19:13. Ethan Bolton finished the race in 19:57 and Michael Mattson also had a personal record, finishing the event in 21:52.

“Conner and Vance both finished in the 17’s,” Anderson County coach Derek Wallace said. “We had a good day on a tough course.

“It was a hilly course and it’s the course where they run the state.”

The Lady Mavericks’ top finisher was Kaitlyn Fisher. She completed the course in 19 minutes, 46 seconds. Ava Moody posted a time of 19:51. Marley Caldwell had a personal best time of 21:27. Megan Haire crossed the finish line in 21:30. Emily Boring posted a mark of 23:27 and Haley Braden completed the course in 25:08.

“Our girls had a good day,” Wallace said.
