Lady Wildcats beat Karns 2-0 in quarterfinal

Despite seeing his team win its first match of the 2022 postseason, Oak Ridge High School girls soccer coach Donnie Green couldn’t hide his frustration.

The Lady Wildcats notched a 2-0 victory over Karns Saturday morning in a District 3-AAA quarterfinal game but Green said that the final score didn’t really tell the story.

“I’m frustrated,” he said. “We dominated them everywhere except on the scoreboard.

“We advanced. But we outshot them 32-5. We just couldn’t find the back of the net. We’ve had trouble finding the back of the net. I’m very pleased with the way we played, but we just couldn’t score.”

ORHS (10-6) scored both of its goals late in the first half.

The Lady Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute on a marker by Aniya Fisher.

They extended their advantage to 2-0 approximately four minutes later when Hayven Laurendine tallied off an assist from Fisher.

Laurendine scored in her return to the Oak Ridge lineup. She missed Thursday night’s regular-season finale, a 2-0 loss to Rhea County, due to illness.

The Lady Wildcats opened the week on Tuesday, Oct. 4, with a 5-2 victory over Carter in Strawberry Plains.

Against the Lady Devils, Oak Ridge got on the board early as Laurendine tallied in the second minute.

Fisher made it 2-0 with a goal on a free kick in the 29th minute.

Lera Lee scored off an assist from Mia Wiest just before halftime. Lee tallied in the 39th minute of Oak Ridge’s first win on artificial turf this season.

Fisher and Rose Pelletier scored goals in the second half for the Lady Wildcats against the Lady Hornets.

Oak Ridge, the No. 4 seed in the District 3-AAA Tournament, played top-seeded West High in an elimination semifinal match Tuesday night.

Results of that match were not available at press time.
