County’s cross country teams have busy weekend

Anderson County

The Anderson County High School cross country teams saw their respective 2022 seasons continue Saturday as both the Mavericks and Lady Mavericks posted some competitive times at the Cherokee Invitational.

Some top runners for both teams were out due to fall break.

ACHS Coach Derek Wallace said the event was marred by timing issues after getting off to a late start.

“We got there and our kids were ready to run and then they had to stand around and wait,” Wallace said. “I think they fired most of the timers. It was just embarrassing.”

For the Lady Mavericks, Marley Caldwell finished in sixth place as she completed the course in 22 minutes, 3 seconds. Emily Boring took 15th as she posted a time of 24:13. Morgan Lindsey finished 16th as she crossed the finish line in 25:26. Sydney Day posted a time of 26:55 and finished 19th. Kate Brooks was 20th (29:29) and Emma Johnson was 21st (29:34).
